W10 2004 DirectX 12 Ultimate

Post by 3DNovice »

W10 2004 came out back in May and adds DirectX 12 Ultimate support. DirectX 12 Ultimate supports DirectX Raytracing 1.1, Variable Rate Shading, Mesh Shaders, and Sampler Feedback. This feature is included in the Nvidia 451.48 drivers and requires W10 2004.

10. Issue with older drivers for Nvidia display adapters (GPU) -- Affected devices with Nvidia graphics cards may receive stop errors or bluescreens. Affects devices with driver version lower than 358.00. (update hold for affected devices)

Removed in W10 2004 is the option to defer updates for 365 days, only the 35 day option is present. I recall some of you using this option, so you might want to start looking at 3rd party alternatives.

Another thing, you might come across, is that Microsoft installed it's Edge web browser on your W7 installation.

W10 2004 is being pushed out to some unsuspecting individuals. So be sure that you have your current build protected.

DirectX12 Ultimate is not currently implemented in any games that I could find, perhaps Microsoft Flight Simulator might be the first on PC?? Dunno

But obviously, we will not be seeing DirectX 12 Ultimate in a game anytime in the near future, but perhaps by next year after the release of the new XBox series X, more developers might implement it. Especially since DirectX 12 Ultimate brings with it a new update to DirectX Raytracing (DXR), version 1.1, which makes ray tracing even more efficient for developers to implement.

Hopefully we will still see many new games still offering DX11 as a fall back API, cross your fingers :)
