That is the right file, the 3d.dll is just SoftHIDReceiver.dll patched with the emitters device IDs etc

If you want to check your file isn't corrupt the 3d_x64.dll file's MD5 should be: E5C798C7AE2507A02C2CE6866504AB19

What to you mean by "unblocked the dll specifically? In your Antivirus?

There could be a problem with regsvr on your system, maybe it's trying to use the 32bit version or something??

Running init_x64.bat through explorer should select the right version but try an elevated command prompt if you haven't yet.

Can you register / unregister C:\Program Files\dsf\GenericHID\SoftHidReceiver.dll ???

Check to see if the 32bit 3d.dll will register using 32bit regsvr from \windows\syswow64

Also try registering another different 64bit dll file, like a directshow codec or something...

Maybe I have the same problem. I tried register using /i and gives me error. Without /i it says registered. Before I was able to use the emulator but suddendly it stopped working... when I run enablestereo.bat (cscript enablestereo.wsf) it gives me in the command line the error "d:\1\enablestereo.wsf(53, 16) Microsoft VBScript Runtime Error: O
ActiveX component can't create object: 'DSF.DSF' I tried reinstalling all, including a fresh new win7 x64. But no luck. Any help ?? TKS

Maybe some recent windows update has caused the problem, have you installed IE9? Try resetting the zone security levels under the security tab in internet options, just hit "Reset all zones to default level". If that doesn't work set a custom level for each zone and under ActiveX set "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting" to Enable.

Also check that DAO is registered ok: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\DAO360.DLL" or maybe C:\Program Files(x86)\...

You could try editing enablestereo.bat to force it to use the right cscript version:

start C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cscript.exe enablestereo.wsf

OR

start C:\Windows\System32\cscript.exe enablestereo.wsf

Come to think of it maybe you could try the same thing with Regsvr in the init.bat? You might need to add the path to the wsf file?

I'm out of ideas now, there are some debug tools in the WDK but that's beyond me I'm affraid...

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... n&id=11800" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Maybe you could use something like Dependency Walker to pin down the problem instead:

http://www.dependencywalker.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Good luck with it guys, let me know how you get on.

Just wanted to come back with an update.

I was going to try the ideas in the second response tonight but when I did my initial test it worked! I've had a couple of restarts since last tme I tried, so something must have finally just worked. I wish I had a better answer as to what I did to fix it for future people, but I really didn't do anything.

Now, to get my Optoma projector recognized as the Acer one, order a couple pairs of DLP Link glasses and enjoy!

Re: Nvidia 3D Vision Clone?

Post by DaveDean »

I finally got the DLP Glasses and tried it yesterday... it didn't work good at all.
It was jumping on & off from 3D like it was not syncled or something.

I had few issues :

1. The "OpenGL Hardware" did NOT work as it said I don't have the hardware for it.
I used the "OpenGL Emulated - Agreessive" instead and that made the movie picture jump like crazy... not sure if that should be the case... ?

2. I could not chose 120hz - I chose the recommended resolution of 1280x 1024 , and in that resolution the max I could chose as refresh rate was 100hz...
To chose 120hz I had to lower t he resolion to something like 1024x768 ...
Which one should I use ??

Do you think I should update my ATI Drivers ?
I didn't install anything from ATI - just what came from Win7.
should I download the ATI drivers from their web site ?

3. You said "Set your projector to its native resolution" - how do I do that ?

4. You said :"option called "DLP 3D sync" - but it didn't... it had an option in the menu to chose "Enable 3D" but it was DISABLED... so I didn't do anything. I clicked on "ReSync" button on the remote but that did not fix anything...

5. Last question - I think that might be an issue but not sure. The way I connected my Laptop to the Projector...
I just used a VGA male - VGA male cable that I had from my old CRT Screen.
Both devices had a VGA output so it worked...
But is that good enough for this purpose or should I get a different Cable ?
My Laptop does have something else in the side - like DVI or something rectagular. Maybe I can get that ?
What do you think ?

I know... too many questions... but if you can help me - that would be AWESOME !
I'll be forever indebt to you... :)
I really wanted to impress my parents with that 3D movie on the projector...

Thanks again

I think all the ATI FireGL desktop workstation cards support quad-buffer, I'm not sure about laptops though,

you can try using the lastest driver from the ATI site, make sure you get the right one though. Exactly what model laptop is it?
DaveDean wrote:I used the "OpenGL Emulated - Agreessive" instead and that made the movie picture jump like crazy... not sure if that should be the case... ?
You can use emulated mode to test, but I'd still try and get hardware QB to work if you can.

The picture will look blurry / shudder, but it will look 3D through the glasses, if they are synced...
DaveDean wrote:2. I could not chose 120hz - I had to lower t he resolution to something like 1024x768 ... Which one should I use ??

3. You said "Set your projector to its native resolution" - how do I do that ?
Most DLP projectors have 1 native resolution (not scaled) but the H66 is a bit more complicated,

try 1280x800,1280x720, and 1024x768, pick the one that lets you go to 120Hz refresh rate.
DaveDean wrote:4. You said :"option called "DLP 3D sync" - but it didn't... it had an option in the menu to chose "Enable 3D" but it was DISABLED...
Most DLP projectors will only allow you to enable 3D mode at 120Hz and at the native resolution, then you should then be able to Enable 3D sync.
DaveDean wrote:5. Last question - I just used a VGA...
I'm still using VGA myself, but you can try HDMI if you have that on your laptop, it should give a better picture but I doubt you'd notice.

BTW, if you get a stable image through the glasses but the 3D looks "wrong" then use the invert or swap left / right feature in the Sview to correct it.

Let me know how you get on...

hello ,im a bit desesperate,i got windows 7 64 bits (in french) and i got a lg 3d passive screen with a gts 450 nvidia video card.
i tryed to install the ir emulator but it looks like the emulator create a unknown device instead of the ir.
it is reconised as a hid devise.
USB\VID_045E&PID_0042&REV_4200 and USB\VID_045E&PID_0042
so yea it doesnt install nvidia driver ...
tryed to force install driver by messing the ini but after the instalation the device failed to start. (code10).
i seen there already a answer in the rusian site but the site is in maintenance so i cant access the page.
please help. :(

The DSF device stack has not installed properly, so the nvidia driver can't be loaded.

First remove the HID devices, uninstall DSF and then REBOOT.

DISABLE UAC then install DSF again (make sure you install the correct version x86 or x64) then REBOOT again.

Next run the correct init.bat as Admin, then install the USB driver by running NvIRUSB.exe from the C:\Nvidia folder.

If that doesn't work try the things I suggested before, removing ghost devices etc.

Good luck...

tryed but didnt changed a thing so i looked the problem more closely.
and i founded where was the prob.
dunno why the bat was starting the generic_hid script instead of stereoscopic one...(maybie it wasnt able to find the script)
just remplaced the generic-hid one in programfile with the stereoscopic one (renamed as generic_hid of course) with all dll and it fixed the problem.
edit: this crack is verry usefull because it enable 3dtvplay if you have a 3d tv with a set of glases not 3d vision compatible.
me im using a lg d2342-pn with passive glases and it works great!
the only problem is 3dtv play works only on limited resolution alowed by hdmi 1.4 and most models are not supported for the moment (my screen is not suported...)
but this driver work on most unsuported 3d tv model!
thx to nvidia forum where i founded it.

Finally I made my HD66 Optoma Projector play 3D movies !!
Thank you Nick3DvB !!

It's not perfect but it does show 3D...
I'm saying it's not perfect because sometimes the picture jumps a bit and I lose the 3D depth... but this might be a config issue. I did try playing with replaing right eye / left eye and with the INVERT Sync etc' , so I'm sure I'll get it perfectly.

It can also be the Hardware issue as I was not able to make it work on HARDWARE but only in Software Emulation and Agressive Software Emulation.
When I tried switching to QuadBuffer Hardware - it crashed with an error about INI API something...

I did install the API drivers for my laptop but nothing helped.
Maybe my laptop just doesn't support it.
I have a W500 IBM Lenevo Laptop - anyone have any idea ?
And do you think it will work better if I use Hardware instead of Software ? in what it will be better ?

Hi Dave, I'm glad to hear you got it working! :)

I checked on the AMD website and sadly not all FirePro / FireGL cards support hardware 3D:

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cac ... m27wQsGRcA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cac ... bemBB_ErJw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So you might be stuck with software mode I'm afraid. The problem you are having is known as eye-swapping, it is common in software mode, but you can use the swap / invert funtion in Sview (or in the projector) to correct it when it happens. You can also try Stereoscopic Player instead using its Software Quad-buffer output mode:

Thanks , Nick.
I will try the Hardware 3D with my other comptuers - maybe it will work with one of them...

I did want to use the Sterefcopic software and besides the fact it's letting me view only for a few minutes ( I didn't buy it... no license ) - it does NOT play it in 3D at all... and also no SOUND ( says I need FFDshow ).
I tried playing with the configuration but nothing seemed to work...in terms of 3D . I don't care about sound right now.
But I did chose Side-By-Side (right first) - and in the viewing method I chose "Quad Buffer OpenGL"... the 3D glasses did not work at all...
Any idea ?

Also - to another issue all together... how would I connect the SOUND from the computer to the Receiver ?
The laptop has a regular headphone jack but that's it... it's only stereo so that would not give me a good quality of Sound... :(
I know that the MKV files I play have good sound quality but how would I connect it to the system ??
Any idea ... ?

Maybe, if you find out exactly what graphics chip each PC has then I can check for you.

Select "Software Page-flipping" output, cross your fingers, then switch to full-screen. It might work but many have had problems with it.
DaveDean wrote:Also - to another issue all together... how would I connect the SOUND from the computer to the Receiver?
If your laptop has HDMI then connect that to the receiver, if not it might output SPDIF through the "headphone" socket, but its not likely.

Good luck!

thanks , again.
1. I did try the 3D hardware on all my laptops - all have failed...
Is there any software like SView for MAC ? I can try there...

2. when I switched to "full screen unscaled" - it crashed...
I'll try again today , but it's not looking good...

3. I connected the SPDIF output from my Laptop Docking station to my Reciever AC3 RF Signal input and also the COAXIAL - and both gave nothing... not a sound...
Any other way I can output the MKV sound to 5 channels ?

You can try Bino, but I don't think it supports DLPlink glasses?

Use the SPDIF on the dock, and make sure windows and sView are both configured to output to the SPDIF.

Also when you installed sView you must tick the "OpenAL" box.

Thanks , Nick.
It was hard but I made it ... all thanks to you !
In sView when I chose SPDIF output in "OpenAL DEVICE" it did not work initally - but when I closed it and opened again - it did work !
I had to put my received in COAXIAL model CD player - and not LD AC3 RF mode - and then it worked !! :)
I heard that the sound would be only stereo but when I chose in sView AUDIO tab --> AC3 5.1 Channles sound --> it worked well in all the speakers !

so - though I am stll using software 3D and not hardware - it still works good - most of the time , and the sound is GREAT.

It's just an AMAZING exprience to watch my wall become 3D and get such DEPTH - it's un-freaking-belieavable...
I've watched AVATAR and it's just amazing how my room become ALIVE and my boring white wall get to be 10 feet deep... it's just so BIG that it looks as if it's REAL ... just there...

MUCH BETTER than the 3D 55" TV - EVEN better than the IMAX CINEMA !
It was all worth it !! :)

Thank you again for everything !! and now , I have some movies to watch...

* PS : since I really love it - I may just buy a Desktop computer with a strong 3D card that will have Hardware 3D.
I'll just leave it there in the closet as my MEDIA SERVER. I actually have a couple of old desktop (P4) that I'm sure I can find some PCI cards for them that have 3D Hardware.
My question - is it really going to be worth it ?
At the moment - it does have some glitches sometimes but most of the times - it works GREAT !
What do you think ?
Also - what 3D movies do you recommend to see ? the best ones .. ?

Ok , you said you can check Video Cards for me about if they have Hardware 3D ...
So I found one that will work on my P4 Desktop (It only have AGP so I couldn't get a PCI-Express card like most cards today ).
It's Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3450 512 MB DDR2 AGP Video Card.
I chose him because it has HDMI output.
What do you think ? should I buy it ? will it work better than my Laptop ?
I already bought a 7 channels Sound Card so I think I'll be good in terms of sound by connecting it to this Desktop and Optic cable from it to the reciever.
But with a HDMI video card - it should be perfect...
What say you ?

Hi Dave, great to hear you finally got everything working! :)

I still remeber the first time I got 3D working on my projector, it blew me away to!! I terms of 3D movies I would recommend all the IMAX space stuff, Resident Evil Afterlife, How to Train your Dragon, Legend of the Guardians, Sanctum, and maybe Tron Legacy. The samsung 3D demo disc is also pretty good.

Sadly the HD3450 does not support hardware 3D, the only AGP cards that do would be old OpenGL workstation cards like the FireGL / Quadro, you can pick these up cheaply on eBay now but the problem with these cards is that they do not support hardware video acceleration so playback of H264 / AVC format HD video files would probably be very jerky on your old P4 system. The only solution I can think of would be to buy an AGP HD3850 and do a "SoftMod" hack to convert it to a FireGL V7700 card:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/workstat ... specs.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=76984" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But this is a very rare card now, and the SoftMod / BIOSmod would be very complicated, especially for an AGP card. To be honest it would probably be easier (and cheaper) just to buy a cheap PCI-E motherboard and graphics card, like an AMD HD6450 or Nvidia GT430, or maybe even a complete AMD "Fusion" based system. You could then use software like PowerDVD 10 / Arcsoft TMT5 to play 3D Bluray, and maybe even play some games in 3D, but you would want to get a faster card to play newer games in 3D.

Whether you should build a new system for 3D really depends on how much eye-swapping you are getting with the laptop, and how much it bothers you. With a hardware 3D card on a DLPlink projector you should get no eye-swapping once the video is playing in full screen, you only have to check for inversion once then it will stay in sync for the whole movie. Also remember that you might not be able to tell when the 3D is inverted yet, with software 3D it can happen randomly, and as you get more experianced it might start to bother you more. Personally I would build a cheap HTPC just for 3D, you won't regret it!

Ok , I think I have a solution.
I found a PCI express card GeForce 8500 GT and 4 gb RAM DDR2 ( left overs from previous desktops ) , so I am thinking to build a new PC.
All I need is some good Motherboard and a CPU...
I also have a Cretive Live sound card with Digitial sound output so that should be fine to the reciever.
What do you say , Master ? will the GeForce 8500GT do the job or is it not strong enough ?
It's 256 mb - not the 512mb version... but it was the BEST one when I got it... that was a while ago though...

The 8500GT should be fine, it should do 3Dvision and H264 for video playback, but for 3D Bluray (MVC) you would still need a fast enough CPU.

It might even be able to play some older games in 3D, like Half Life 2 etc, but I'm not sure if nvidia just block 3D rendering on low-end cards?

thanks.
All I care right now is about playing those MKV movies on sView WITH Hardware 3D and not software.
So I hope this card will do the job. I'm going to get the motherboard & CPU today and assemble it soon.
I dont care about 3D Blurays as I don't have a 3D bluray player and I don't play games as much so I'm not really interested in that yet...
I played Thor 3D on my XBOX but it was not really impressive... there was hardly any 3D effect.

Thanks again

Remember you will need to install windows 7 on the new PC and use the emulator to enable 3Dvision. To use hardware video acceleration, for smooth playback of H264 mkv files, you will need to use the free Nvidia video player insead of sView, just install the free trial version of PowerDVD 10 and configure the nvidia player to use its audio and video codecs, then tick the DXVA box in the cyberlink video decoder properties menu, and enable SPDIF output in the cyberlink audio decoder. If you have a fast enough CPU you might still be able to play downloaded 3D Bluray disc rips (off your hard disc) but you will need a fast internet connection to download the 50GB files! I strongly suggest you download the Half Life 2 or Portal demos from Steam, they look great in 3D and should play pretty smoothly on the 8500GT. Let me know when you've built the new PC.

Hey , I finally got the new comptuer working and I installed the GeForce 8500GT hoping it will allow me to run 3D movies on sView with "OpenGL Hardware" ... but damn , I'm still getting this error "WinAPI , QuadBuffered Stereo NOT supported"...

And this is AFTER I installed the latest driver from NVIDIA ( I took the absolut latest version - still in alpha ).

Did I just spend $200 for nothing ??
I got it the same before on my laptop... and I'm getting this again on the desktop...
Am I doing something wrong ?

I remember that before I had to install the latest ATI drivers - but this card is NOT ATI - it's GeForce NVIDIA - so I instaleld their drivers... was I wrong to do so ?

Also - I do see a 4th option there called "Direct 3D NVIDIA" - what is that ? is that any good ?
Is that HARDWARE ? is it as good as OpenGL ??
It seems to work but dammit I want OpenGL - it's supposed to be better... ain't it ?

Hi Dave, re-read my last post, forget OpenGL you need to use the emitter emulator to enable 3Dvision, which is also "hardware" 3D.

I'm around for a few hours now so let me know if you need any help with it.

So , are you saying it's now more complicated because it's NOT ATI Card ?
That's a shame... I did all that just to be able to use the 3D hardware option, as with the software option the 3D kept going away and getting distoreted...

So as much as I can understand from you without reading the post you mentioned (didn't find it ) - am I supposed to install some emitter emulation and then "Enable 3D" with the NVIDIA drivers ( I have this option ) - then what option do I chose in sView ?

Please tell me where to read your last post again . What page is it...

thanks

Nick,
Ok , I saw your post from Oct 6 about NVidia 3D Vision and I have a few questions :

1. I installed Win 7 (32bit) but where do I download the Emulator from ?

2. What is that "Free NVidia Video Player" you mentioned to use instead of sView ? is that "PowerDVD 10" ? because I already have the full version installed there from before - I bought it.

3. If that's the case - how do I use PowerDVD to Enable the 3D - meaning - to take the 3D MKV files and convert the 2 sides to 1 side - just like sView is doing ?
I didn't see any option there that looks like the sView software... it's just for playing regular DVD's... Am I wrong ?

4. How do I configure the "nvidia player" to use it's audio & video codecs ??

5. Where is that "cyberlink video decoder properties menu" to click on the DXVA ?
I already installed the KLM CODEM package and enabled the DXVA to decode etc' - it's in the last step - should I be fine ?
how do I test if it's working ? what exactly does it do ?

6. How do I enable the SPDIF ? where is taht audio decoder - is it in the PowerDVD options ?

7. Lastly... I do have many 3D Blu rays rips - those are the MKV files I mentioned - it's "3D Half" versions of those 3D Movies - and it's about 8-15 gb - not 50gb... is that what you mean ?
Where would I download those 50gb ones ? Also - once I download the Half Life game - how do I view it in 3D ?

I posted it somewhere near the start of this thread, but here's the direct download link:

http://hotfile.com/dl/111389928/3d22e5e ... r.zip.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is an installation guide here:

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?show ... 06584&st=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

DaveDean wrote:3. If that's the case - how do I use PowerDVD to Enable the 3D
You must have PowerDVD 10 Ultra "MKII" (or PowerDVD11) to enable its 3D support, get the lastest patches here:

http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/supp ... en_GB.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But I would use the free Nvidia video player instead of PowerDVD or Sview, you only need the PowerDVD trial to use its DXVA AVC video decoder anyway.
DaveDean wrote:4. How do I configure the "nvidia player" to use it's audio & video codecs?
From its settings menu, add the Cyberlink decoders under "MPEG4 AVC Decoder" and "Dolby Digital Decoder", remove any others.

DaveDean wrote:5. Where is that "cyberlink video decoder properties menu" to click on the DXVA?
DaveDean wrote:6. How do I enable the SPDIF?
When a video is playing open the video properties menu and go to the Filters tab, then select the Cyberlink decoder and click the Details button.
DaveDean wrote:I already installed the KLM CODEM package and enabled the DXVA to decode etc' - it's in the last step - should I be fine ?
Don't install "codec packs", they are the work of satan! lol

I would remove KLM, the only other thing you might need is the Haali media splitter:

http://haali.su/mkv/MatroskaSplitter.exe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
DaveDean wrote:7. Lastly... I do have many 3D Blu rays rips - those are the MKV files I mentioned - it's "3D Half" versions of those 3D Movies?
Yes, MKV rips are half resolution at best, full "ISO" rips are 100% original quality, they can be burnt back to blank bluray discs or loaded using something like this:

http://www.dvdfab.com/virtual-drive.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
DaveDean wrote:Also - once I download the Half Life game - how do I view it in 3D?
If 3Dvision is enabled it will run in 3D automatically, just remember to set the depth slider to full in the nvidia control panel if you have a large screen.

If you have problems let me know, I don't have your email but you can PM it to me if you like.

Good luck!

Thanks , Nick , I got the Emulator.
My anti virus was screaming... it saw it full of viruses... but I don't care ... :)

I'll get the Nvidia player , but I also have PowerDVD10 Mark II Ultra 3D installed - isn't that enough or should I still install that patch you mentioned ?
It did ask me about 3D options and I put the bar all the way to the right in DEPTH.
Is that OK ?
You said I only need it for the DXVA decoder - what is that giving me and how do I use it ?

Are you saying to install PowerDVD just so I can use his decoder in the NVIDIA player ?
did I understand you correctly on that ??

In the picture you attached - under the MPEG4 AVC Decoder was FFDSHOW , not CYBERLINK DECODER... I'm a bit confused on that.
What's the easiest way to go - POWERDVD or the NVIDIA player ?
If they both do the same thing - I just need to know one way... the easiest... :)

Also - if I don't install the KLM Codecs - how do I get the FFDSHOW ??

DaveDean wrote:My anti virus was screaming... it saw it full of viruses...
Your Antivirus is wrong, the patch files are 100% clean, but if it has blocked anything the emulator might not work properly now.
DaveDean wrote:I also have PowerDVD10 Mark II Ultra 3D installed - isn't that enough or should I still install that patch you mentioned?
I would install the latest patch for PowerDVD 10, it might fix some of the bugs...
DaveDean wrote:It did ask me about 3D options and I put the bar all the way to the right in DEPTH.
That won't effect games though, set the depth slider in the Nvidia contol panel as well.
DaveDean wrote:You said I only need it for the DXVA decoder - what is that giving me and how do I use it ?
DXVA lets the video card decode the video stream instead of the CPU, giving much smoother playback on slower CPUs, what CPU have you got btw? To enable DXVA in PowerDVD just tick the use Nvidia Purevideo hardware accelleration tick-box in the settings menu, also remember to set the sound output to SPDIF.
DaveDean wrote: Are you saying to install PowerDVD just so I can use his decoder in the NVIDIA player? Did I understand you correctly on that ??
Yep, the free trial version would have been enough to do that.
DaveDean wrote:In the picture you attached - under the MPEG4 AVC Decoder was FFDSHOW , not CYBERLINK DECODER... I'm a bit confused on that.
The screenshot was just to show you what the menu looks like, you will have different codecs listed.
DaveDean wrote:What's the easiest way to go - POWERDVD or the NVIDIA player? If they both do the same thing - I just need to know one way... the easiest... :)
If you have already paid for PowerDVD then you may as well use it now, but it had some really annoying bugs when I tried it, like the OSD sticking.
DaveDean wrote:Also - if I don't install the KLM Codecs - how do I get the FFDSHOW ??
Codec packs cause all kinds of problems, if you need a codec get it directly from the authors instead, for example: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But I wouldn't install FFdshow anyway, you probably don't need it and it will just complicate things even more, if I were you I'd stick with PowerDVD for the moment...

The first step is to make sure the emulator is actually working, nothing else will work without it, have you run the 3D setup wizzard in the nvidia control panel yet?

Re: Nvidia 3D Vision Clone?

OK... here's what happened.

1. Emulator installed successfully. I run the script in the background. I see no change though in anything.

2. I installed the latest patch for PowerDVD 10

3. I installed the NVIDIA player but it did not read MKV files. says it is missing some codecs

4. PowerDVD reads the 3D MKV files and when I click 3D button - it merges the 2 images to one.

5. I chose Hardware Pure in the PowerDVD

I did not see any DXVA filter to add anywhere but I did add the PowerDVD decoder to the Nvidia player - though I did not add any Dolby sound as I did not see any...
But the PowerDVD seems to be on SPDIF out - it's the only thing it has there.

Lastly - I opened the NVIDIA center and I ENABLED 3D - it went through the setup in which I just did next...next... without actually testing it.
It's Enabled now but I see no difference in anything.

What should I do next ?
Can I just try and watch a 3D Movie on the projector ? should I enable something else - turn the 3D on etc' ?
I'm a bit confused on the games / movie issue - what do I need to do in order to play 3D games and what I need in order to play the 3D MKV files ?

Also - I got a new MotherBoard and a CPU and I have 3GB ram ( I put 4gb but it only saw it as 2 so I added 1 more ).
CPU is AMD AM2+ - it's good... I think it's strong enough for any game or movie. It's new...

If it has worked you should see the Nvidia Stereo controller listed in windows device manager under USB devices, and in the Nvidia control panel the stereoscopic 3D page should change from "Discovery" mode and allow your set-up your projector etc. If the test just displays anaglyph (red / blue colours) then the emulator isn't working.
DaveDean wrote:I installed the NVIDIA player but it did not read MKV files. says it is missing some codecs
Try installing the Haali mkv splitter, and check you added the Cyberlink decoders properly, but I wouldn't worry about the Nvidia player until you know that 3Dvision / PowerDVD are working ok.
DaveDean wrote:PowerDVD reads the 3D MKV files and when I click 3D button - it merges the 2 images to one.
PowerDVD will seem to "merge" the images even if the wrong output mode is selected, check that it is set to "120Hz" mode in it's 3D settings menu.
DaveDean wrote:Lastly - I opened the NVIDIA center and I ENABLED 3D - it went through the setup in which I just did next...next... without actually testing it. It's Enabled now but I see no difference in anything.
Nothing will work until you complete the Nvidia 3Dvision setup wizzard properly, when you ran it did it say "3Dvision display detected" etc? It won't actually let you finish the wizzard unless you answer the test questions correctly. The setup wizzard should look something like this:

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2653" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
DaveDean wrote:Can I just try and watch a 3D Movie on the projector ? should I enable something else - turn the 3D on etc' ?
If you run the test you should see a blurry "double image", if you enable 3D in the projector menu it should look 3D through the glasses, if it looks "wrong" you might need to invert the 3D in the projector menu.
DaveDean wrote:I'm a bit confused on the games / movie issue - what do I need to do in order to play 3D games and what I need in order to play the 3D MKV files ?
If 3Dvision is enabled then games should just work, if you have configured PowereDVD properly mkv files should work to. Suck it and see... 8-)
DaveDean wrote:CPU is AMD AM2+ - it's good... I think it's strong enough for any game or movie.
You would probably need a quad-core CPU to play full 3D Bluray "ISO" rips but a dual-core will be fine for mkv's, even without DXVA enabled.

Sounds like you're almost there, let me know how you get on...

Re: Nvidia 3D Vision Clone?

Post by DaveDean »

Nick,

1. I did see it in the device manager under USB devices so I know it was installed fine.
I just don't understand how the Nvidia control panel is connected to the movies part of it.
Do I need to ENABLE the 3D there in order to watch a 3D movie or is it just for GAMES ?

2. I did install the Haali mkv splitter and I can watch the mkv now on the NVIDIA player but it still complains about the codec... yet - now it's more specific - it says I need to insall the FFDSHOw one...
I also added the Cyberlink decoders but not the Sound one as I couldn't find it... I added one SPDIF High Audio instead.
I say - let's try with the PowerDVD first and leave the NVIDIA for now... later I'll try the NVIDIA and compare who is better and stick with it.
In terms of perforamance - are there any differences ?

3. I was not connected yet to my Projector and in my LCD screen I can only chose 75 herts max.
I'll connect the projector tonight and change resolution to 120herts and then make sure it is set to "120Hz" mode in the PowerDVD 3D settings menu. If I can find it...
Also - do you know there is PowerDVD 11 now ? can I use that instead ?

4. 3D Vision did finish the Wizard on Automatic detection but I did NOT see anything - I just GUESSED everything and asnwered all the questions... I have a good 6th sense so I'm a good guesser... :)
I can try doing it AGAIN and see if I get "3Dvision display detected" but I don't know how - HOW do I run this Wizard again ?

5. My Projector 3D option is ENABLED all the time as long as the input is 120hz , as far as I know from last time...
So I can just run the 3D NVIDIA Wizard again and this time answer the questions for REAL ... that is if I see it in 3D.
Would that work ?
What do I need to do for that to work ?
If I just DISABLE the 3D and try to ENABLE it again - would it ask me to run this TEST / WIZARD again ?

To Summarize - if I just run the Wizard and ENABLE the 3D - that's ALL I need to do in order to run GAMES.
Then all I do is download the GAME (I'll start with HalfLife 2) and play it as usual and then I will see it in 3D on my projector - just by wearing the 3D Glasses ? is that correct ?

And for Movies - all I need to do is configure the PowerDVD correctly and run a movie ?
Do I need to still ENABLE the 3D in the NVIDIA control panel ?

Can you please repeat again how do I configure the PowerDVD ?
All I did is download the latest patch and click on the 3D Button to merge the pics... what else do I need to do ?

Lastly - Why would I want to play full 3D Bluray "ISO" rips ? Is it really better than the 15gb MKV BluRay rips I currently have ?
I was NOT able to find any place to download those full 3D ISO's so I cannot even test this idea... do you know any ?

Once again - thanks again... :)
You are so helpful , Nick , I just feel I need to pay you... are you doing it for a living ?
I thought you can email me diretly as I had my email address in my profile but I don't mind putting it here , I just don't know if they'll allow me... is that not against the rules ?

Also - I am wondering , why do we need to configure the nvidia player to use PowerDVD audio and video codecs ?
What's the idea behind that - why cant we use it's own codecs ?
I did not find any audio codec to add there , by the way... but there was a BIG list of stuff to add... do you know any other one that will work for me ?

And also I did not find the DXVA box in the cyberlink video decoder properties menu and how to enable SPDIF output in the cyberlink audio decoder.
I go to Settings --> Video --> and all I see is "Enable Hardware Accellation Pure Video" , which I enabled. But nothing else...
Nothing about any codecs...
Did you mean in the NVIDIA Video player ?

Doh! That explains everything...

I assumed you had the projector connected all the time, you MUST have it connected to set up 3Dvision, re-read the instructions with it plugged in, they should make a lot more sense now…

I noticed! ;)

Until the nvidia wizard is completed successfully NOTHING will work - games or movies, it’s the key to the whole thing! That’s why the emulator is so important, and actually having the projector connected when you run the wizard also helps... :P
DaveDean wrote:I can try doing it AGAIN and see if I get "3Dvision display detected" but I don't know how - HOW do I run this Wizard again ?
It should reset when it works out you have connected the projector, but if it doesn’t click the little arrow next to the “Test Stereoscopic 3D” button to run it again, when the setup wizard has finished run the test to make sure everything works.

DaveDean wrote: Can you please repeat again how do I configure the PowerDVD ?
Click the little arrow next to the 3d button, and make sure it’s set to 3Dvision 120Hz mode, leaving it on auto should work but doesn’t most of the time.

Stick with PowerDVD, but version 11 is a joke so don’t bother upgrading to it. If you want to try another simple player check out Arcsoft Total Media Theatre 5, it’s much better IMHO.

DaveDean wrote:Why do we need to configure the nvidia player to use PowerDVD audio and video codecs ? What's the idea behind that - why cant we use it's own codecs ?
The free Nvidia player doesn’t contain any codecs, you have to install and configure them yourself, this makes it a lot more flexible but also a lot more complicated, I shouldn’t have suggested it really but I didn't know you had bought PowerDVD, we should just concentrate on getting 3Dvision working first.
DaveDean wrote:Why would I want to play full 3D Bluray "ISO" rips ? Is it really better than the 15gb MKV BluRay rips I currently have ?
Unless you have a 1080p full HD display you probably won’t notice the difference to be honest, I'd say its worth it for certain films (Avatar, Tron etc) but I’d stick with mkv’s for most movies.
DaveDean wrote:I was NOT able to find any place to download those full 3D ISO's so I cannot even test this idea... do you know any ?
I use Usenet myself, but that’s a bit complicated. The biggest 3D sharing site was shut down a few months ago but you might want to have a look here: http://www.fs-3d.com/forum" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
DaveDean wrote:I thought you can email me directly as I had my email address in my profile but I don't mind putting it here , I just don't know if they'll allow me... is that not against the rules ?
This forum doesn’t seem to have a normal user profile / contacts system, if you want to send me your email just click the PM button under one of my posts. btw, never post your email address on a public forum, if a spambot finds it you'll get a load more junk mail.
DaveDean wrote:Once again - thanks again... :) You are so helpful , Nick , I just feel I need to pay you... are you doing it for a living ?
Good guess! I do work in IT (remote access support), I'm living the dream… lol

I'm happy to help but if you are serious about paying me back maybe you could return the favour by giving a small donation to the Somali famine appeal for me? But I don’t want to guilt-trip you about it so it’s your call:

Nick,
I don't see that option in PowerDVD of 3Dvision 120Hz mode , but I see the same as in this pic NVIDIA 3D Ready. Is that fine ?

Do I need to change the resolution again to one that has 120hz or was it only with the ATI ?

Re: Nvidia 3D Vision Clone?

Post by DaveDean »

Sorry for the late update... I had some issue connecting to the Projector for some reason.
It wouldn't work...

I bought a Cable that has DVI in one side and HDMI in another and I was trying to connect it from the PC (DVI) to the Projector (HDMI) , but it wouldn't work...
I think the DVI was not exactly what I needed - I read there are a few kinds of DVI and this one had the short pin while the GeForce card has the one with the Long pin...
So I went and I got a DVI to VGA cable - but that did NOT work at all... black screen... and this one did have the long pin... so I was a bit frustrated by that time and I threw the damn projector out the window...
No... I'm joking.
I desperatly simply connected the VGA to VGA cable directly to the Projector - clicked the VGA button on the remote and it worked fine...
But then again - it's VGA - how good is that ?!?
I wanted to use a HD quality output - the DVI to HDMI was my best option but that did not work...
The quality with the VGA to VGA cable is NOT really as good as when I see a movie via the BluRay ( I tried to watch Avatar from the BluRay and from the PC).

So , the question now is : What is better ? VGA , DVI -to- HDMI or SVIDEO ?
Those are the 3 outputs I have in my card.
I did NOT try the SVIDEO - is that BETTER than VGA -VGA ?

I am going to buy today an adapter from DVI-I ( which I think is what I got ) to HDMI and connect a regular HDMI cable in it and see how it goes.
Here's what I want to buy : http://www.meritline.com/male-dvi-i-to- ... 30315.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What do you think ? will that work ?

Now... regarding the 3D stuff - it WORKED !!
I did exactly like that instruction - the Wizard worked and I chose the right stuff now.
PowerDVD intiially did NOT work in the movies but then I chose NVIDIA in the menu and that fixed it...
It had some glitches some times - very rarely - but most of the time it worked fine...
Is there anything I can do to adjust things - like INVERT etc' ?
I did move from RIGHT to LEFT from PowerDVD but that's all I saw...
I remember that in sView there were more options but I did not see anything in PowerDVD.

I did not try the NVIDIA player yet but I'll give it a try tonight.
I'm just a bit upset as the picture quality was NOT very good - quite DULL and lifeless - colors are dead , not much contrast...
It was better with the Laptop...
I'll get the HDMI convertor today and see if that improves anything.
But as far as 3D - IT WORKS !!! :) :) :)
Thanks a lot for everything !

ok... I got tired of trying to work this GeForce 8500 card with the HDMI... I want to get a new card... but which ?

Can you recommend the best card for my purpose of watching MKV movies ?
It has to have HDMI obviously... and be kinda affordable because I spent on this venture too much as is...

Here are what I found :

http://www.compusa.com/applications/Sea ... CatId=3585" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.compusa.com/applications/Sea ... CatId=3669" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.compusa.com/applications/Sea ... CatId=3585" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Prices are kinda the same - around the $40...
Those are the CHEAPEST deal I found on those card that have HDMI.

Any advice ?
