[DIY] Feel the speed!

Post by sharky »

hi guys!

welcome to todays tutorial!

first of all thank you to RAGEdemon for his help on this little project.

if you play a racing game or are on a simulator wich involves speed you mostly know that you are at home.. in front of a monitor.. because you need that something that gives you the sense of speed.

Ever been ona rollercoaster? remember the air in your face? well belive me with this simple rig you will feel the sensation of wind in your face!

what you need:

-10V Fan (12 V will do it too but 10 is better)
-3 diodes (size dipend on your motor. i used 8 A diodes
-3 meter wires
-an old audio amplifier

optional
-on off switch.

so first off all take a look at the image below. (ehm, i didnt study electronics so if there are errors on this one just tell it...)

Image

Personally i dont know what diode 2 is good for. but with that diode it works much better. thecnically it should be a short circuit because in the short moment where the frequency of the ac coming out of the amplifier is reversed the motor acts as a dynamo...

well connect everything like on the image and then hook the cables up into the amplifier. connect the amplifier to the computer and play.

----

explanations:

why a 10 V motor? because if you have a 12 V motor you need to pump up the voliume of your amplifier a lot and that means that if you have also the "simple motion simulator" hooked up, it is going to be VERY loud. if you don't have a 10 V motor you can use a resistor in series with the motor. wich one dipends on the motor you use.

why the diode "2"? dont know.. works better for me with that.. you can also remove it.

what if the fan stops after some seconds? invert the cables you connected to the amplifier.

and now some pics and a video.

This sounds cool!

Does the fan work by taking the volume of the audio, and converting it into the speed of the fan?

Can you have audio and fan at the same time?

exactly! yes you can have sound and fan at the same time because the fan takes the audio from the amplifier, and the speakers take the sound from their own amplifier.

Would be nice to have something like a FX code written into games for any stuff like this, untill that time we have Sharky to tell us how to do it :)
