Stereoscopic 3D documentary

Post by clydd »

I suppose there is no harm in me posting a link to the 3D documentary I'd done recently for World Environment Day 2009.

Probably the first 3D documentary on You-Tube (yes I know Imax has Bugs 3D and Denali africa etc) but not in 3d on youtube as yet righ?

Hope you guys enjoy.

in HD here:

No sense posting a video if it wont help in some way, so for those more technically inclined:
Camera rig needed to be portable to get close to the birds and not disturb them, as well as portable for me to carry (alone) up and down hills and across streams.
So gear is:

Sony AVCHD cams CX12
LANC Controller for Sync and Zoom
Live 3D Preview system was Vaio Laptop in Anaglph mode with 2 usb capture devices and Steroscopic Multiplexer software
Edited and post produced on site on a DRL (desktop replacement Laptop) HP HDX premium series 4 gb ram, Vista 64, 1 terabyte on-board.
Software for post: AE, a bit of PS, PPro.
"cinema" preview on DepthQ projection - size 2 meter diagonal.

Cool, we like firsts here in s3d! That is great to hear some of those consumer level non-ruggedized electronics held up to all the abuse out in the wild ;) Dropped in the water in streams, clogged by the dust in the dirt devil twisters, the bird attacks and peckings, you know the usual stuff! Did you have to handle with great care and fragility or was your rig able to take the slings and arrows pretty well with no problems? I know I watched les stroud from survivorman always complaining about his batteries or camera rigs crapping out on him usually from the temperatures and humidity.
The futures so bright, I gotta wear shades!

Very cool man. Some nice nature shots in 3D. Also, the voice-over was using text-to-speech, right? What TTS engine did you use? It had me fooled until like half-way through! Nice work.
