Re: Vk3DVision - A Vulkan 3D Vision Driver (With Single-Frame Stereo and RTX Support)
Hey, Helifax! Thanks for the answer!
I mostly use Virtual Desktop to play Doom: Eternal. In VD I have set quality to MEDIUM (2016x2112). No other supersampling anywhere else.
This morning I have tried playing via AirLink instead. It seems with AirLink performance drop isn't THAT bad. It is still there but seemed better.
Which settings did you play Doom: Eternal on? I have tried running the "flat" version, and my 3080 can handle it at 120 FPS on ULTRA NIGHTMARE in 4K just fine (with RTX).
Also, how do you run Doom: Eternal via AirLink? Do you still launch SteamVR from Oculus, or do you run it directly, somehow?
Thank you!

Looking at the "Cultist Base" Level, I can't see any problems with the Tiles

Like I said.. the problem is not the game, nor Vk3DVision...but the h264 ENCODER that both VD and Airlink uses! It looks like it is not able to COPE with 90 Frames sent for some reason!Serzhas wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 6:11 am Hey, Helifax! Thanks for the answer!

Try to either LOWER the resolution that VD uses or Airlink Uses or LIMIT the FPS in the game from 90 to 60.
There is nothing I CAN DO about it, unless you use a NATIVE PCVR headset that doesn't uses a VIDEO but RAW frames (Like the Index, Pro, etc - everything else except Quest 2).
Also.. isn't the Quest 2 a 72Hz headset? 90/120Hz is experimental? Try to use defaults settings, Like I said

I see. Thanks for the detailed explanation! Will try to lower FPS and see how it will affect performance Also I will try switching to HEVC on Virtual Desktop.
AFAIK, Quest 2 was released with 72 Hz, but then quickly got official (non-experimental) support for 90 Hz. But 120 Hz is still experimental, yes (never used it, though).
Thanks!

As you can see in the video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhb4K1_9s80
This is on Link Cable. It's a pretty old video now, but it clearly shows it
I definitely don't see massive drops in performance like you see there... the fact the encoder takes up to 80ms to encode.. ouch...

5.11.65 is the nVidia driver And yes, I am using vk3dv 4.19.19helifax wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 5:30 am - What is driver 5.11.65 exactly? The latest version of Vk3DVision is 4.19.19
- Strange about the right eye issue - it seems something prevents the game to actually enter in the correct size (3DVision requires DX9 Exclusive Fullscreen for it to work). Glad that Alt+Enter works for you though I never encountered this issue and I don't know how I can replicate it or why it happens.
- I am looking at the "Cultist Base level" but I didn't see any issues. What resolution are you running at? I know this issue appears on resolutions lower than 1600x900 (for some reason and I didn't get around to fix that).
Let me see if I can resolve the screenshot issue to show you, that's not the area I was talking about, it's the one right at the beginning of the level - you jump on the wall, into a little tunnel and come out to an open area with a few flying monsters. That's where it shows up.

YES! This! Similar stuff shows up around the liquid stuff that slows you down and some areas with electical rays on the ground in the 2nd mission - Exultia, unfortunately you'd have to go deeper into the mission to see it as I don't think it's anywhere near the beginning.helifax wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 8:43 amI think I managed to find out what you are talking about: https://i.imgur.com/d4hWQq2.jpgLysander wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 7:42 am5.11.65 is the nVidia driver And yes, I am using vk3dv 4.19.19helifax wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 5:30 am - What is driver 5.11.65 exactly? Looks like my nV Control Panel is messed up, maybe that's why I can't take screenshots, trying to fix it.

Oh, and I'm using 1440 resolution.
Looking closely there are quite a few issues here with the water... First it doesn't look right at all (there are decals and reflections missing) and then it's the problem with the tile system...
Something got wrong at some point... I am looking into it.
The resolution problem (which I need to add to the Readme) happens bellow 1600x900 where the tiles for lights and decals start flickering like crazy. I don't know why tbh... as it works fine for any higher resolution except anything lower than 1600x900.
I think the game uses other logic when running at lower res, because the tile shaders seem to act totally different.
In practice it shouldn't matter as you will always run the game at 1080p or above anyway

(I will not go into detail... search on Reddit for this if you want to see why ^_^ - in short, it stalls the GPU while getting metrics and adds a lot of latency and frame pacing issues )Serzhas wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 6:44 am I see. I updated the Doom Eternal Fix The tiles/blocks around water objects should now be fixed, as well with the body of water correctly displaying it's colour and other charactersistics.
Water surface reflections are disabled still, because for some reason they look wrong in Stereo3D (I've seen it in other games in 3D and even in VR).
So, grab the new fix and give it a go (Remember to CTRL+F5 in chrome to load the updated page ^_^)
Cheers

- in Profiles/Doom Eternal/Vk3DVision.ini set "OpenVR_GameWindowRendering = false" and "OpenVR_AsyncRendering = false". See if that makes a difference.
- if this doesn't help, try to set "FPSLimit = 75 or 60".
For example I can play perfectly fine on the Quest 2 on a 2080 at 1920x1080 on High Preset (no DLSS or RTX). Anything higher will kill the video compressor that Quest 2 uses. (On the Pro1 or Pro2, I have no issues with Ultra/Nightmare Presets).
Also, Vk3DVision has it's own stats (F12) that I am interested in, not other 3rd party stats that measure who knows what.
If you use the latest fix and latest Vk3DVision, the fix should automatically set the FPSLimit to 60, just to avoid this issue of starving the GPU to the lack of Quest 2 H264 compressor keeping up with the frame-rate.
Cheers.

Thanks again, Helifax. I did update fix recently to 4.19.19, and I do remember I manually updated FPS to 90 Will try to leave it at default.

Re: Vk3DVision - A Vulkan 3D Vision Driver (With Single-Frame Stereo and RTX Support)
Helifax!!! I've just tried setting OpenVR_AsyncRendering parameter to false and it did all the difference to the stuttering on fast-moving objects I have reported before!
I have updated to the latest fix version and for the sake of the experiment set all other parameters to the values I've used before, including FPS limit set to 90. OpenVR_GameWindowRendering parameter didn't do any difference. But with OpenVR_AsyncRendering set to false I see WAY LESS stuttering! On the floor fan in the Doom Base, I really must look for quite some time to see an occasional single stutter! Then, for the sake of the experiment, I have set it back to true - and the stuttering was back! Set it back to false and voila! Smooth as butter!
Now I will try setting FPS limit to 60 and see if it improves performance (I have finished Super Gore Nest already, so I must find a new place with degraded performance). Will report back once tested.
HUGE THANKS!

Thanks for the feedback! Now that is very interesting! On any other VR headset, I don't see any difference between rendering Async or InSync with the OpenVR runtime, but I bet it's the h264 compressor that gets stalled, like mentioned beforeSerzhas wrote: βSun Feb 13, 2022 2:37 pmHelifax!!!
In any case, very interesting information right there !!!
I only use InSync Rendering for True VR integration mods, like Wolf2 (which is yet to be released) and I never expected it to make a difference in VR Theatre Mode! But, this just confirmed that I guess, I might set it on false as default then!
Thanks again for the feedback!
Cheers,
Helifax

Would anyone be able to verify this on their system? Helifax says he fixed it with the latest release, but upon fresh install of vk3dvision and D:E fix I am still experiencing this issue. All you have to do is load the Cultist Base level from the beginning and get out of the cave - the issue should be with the water outside, like per the image.helifax wrote: βFri Feb 11, 2022 8:43 am I think I managed to find out what you are talking about: https://i.imgur.com/d4hWQq2.jpg
Not sure why that happens... looking at some shaders...

Re: Vk3DVision - A Vulkan 3D Vision Driver (With Single-Frame Stereo and RTX Support)
My "friend" that is a very "Salty" way of putting it and I don't want to respond to it the same way...
So... here is proof that what I "say" is actually true: 1920x1080 (TESTED ON ALL GRAPHICS PROFILES FROM LOW TO ULTRA-NIGHTMARE!)
2560x1440 (TESTED ON ALL GRAPHICS PROFILES FROM LOW TO ULTRA-NIGHTMARE!)
I am not sure you are actually downloading the correct archive (this I need to fix - as Chrome and other browsers tend to "cache" things thinking they are the "same" when they are not).
( tested the profile on 5 DIFFERENT machines (with different RTX 2000 & 3000 series GPUS) across lots of resolutions... So if you follow the readme and DON'T RUN DLSS OR RTX you should have the SAME results
If you are still having issues, maybe send me your config file or at least tell me ALL of your settings
Cheers,
Helifax

Hey Helifax, the intention wasn't meant to be salty or accusatory, pardon if it came off like that. I'm just trying to figure out where the problem lies and if others have it and what might be wrong with my setup since I've redone everything from scratch. I'll try the new ZIP file you sent me to eliminate caching as the problem.
thx!

Re: Vk3DVision - A Vulkan 3D Vision Driver (With Single-Frame Stereo and RTX Support)
ok, it works! The culprit seems to have been the launch command to disable intro videos in Steam. I had that setup from the past playthrough (with the sequential fix) and I guess at some point the new vk3dv requirements needed that command removed. It also got rid of the right-eye issues, which I was able to fix with a bunch of alt+enter presses as mentioned above but for some reason it kept those water shaders broken. Strange.
The ZIP from the website is also ok. Through this process, I also discovered that Fullscreen mode seems to work fine (no broken shaders from what I've seen), but I'm not sure what other issues it may cause, so I switched to Borderless Window as per the requirements.
Thanks a lot Helifax for the fix, the game looks outstanding and, of course, even better now with those fixed water shaders

Hi Helifax,
How does one adjust crosshair depth in Doom Eternal? I don't care if UI adjusts with it.
I tried F1 for 'custom weapon depth' and Caps Lock for 'UI options', but they don't do anything except turn the weapon black.
Playing in OpenVR.
Thanks!

In the ini file. In game, press f10 and I think it's one of the w or z parameters - it should have a comment. Change it, save the file and it'll reflect in-game. Adjust to your liking. U can also change weapon convergence independently, allowing for higher world separation and conversion.

TL:DR ^_^
Looks incredible in VR though. One of the best games ive seen in VR
I personally prefer it decoupled rather than having a gun stuck to my face. I just need some sort of way to aim better but options are always good.
- on my reverb g2 it works perfect now. what a great mod! one of the best ive ever played. just the aiming brings it down. i cant figure out how to aim properly with controller. no crosshair. no sights. i can just estimate where i shoot...
- I agree, thats the main issue I have.
I'm hoping you can get this working with team red hardware!
My feedback here after playing Wolfenstein II - The New Colossus with @Helifax 's mod (thanks a lot for your hard work! Absolutely appreciated), in case it'll be useful for anyone:
1. I was playing with mouse&keyboard since I simply hate using gamepad sticks for aiming; I guess that touch controller aim assist could help a bit, so maybe i'll test it out later.
2. Performance was absolutely great on high (3070ti), no stutters, no tearing - perfect optimization!
3. As it was mentioned by many, even though using mouse for aiming was fun, myself I'd prefer LukeRoss-like HMD aiming for immersion and convenience.
The list can go on )Yeah, it isnt perfect but neither are Lukes mod. This beats Lukes mod for me hands down
So people love:
- The way it LOOKS, Performance, SIngle Frame Stereo Rendering with TAA and the bells
- They hate the aiming which is kind of loose atm and I understand why (Although some people like it because it feels natural, others for the "Dark Souls" difficulty) And others straight hate it
So overall not to bad for my first VR mod ) I kinda expected this:
- NO AMD support yet... but we already knew that ^_^ (I really need to buy an AMD card in the future it seems ^_^)
- Graphics and 3D are phenomenal as you/we already know that ^_^
- VR controlls suck - but I am working on adding more "accessibility" features there ( I guess not everyone is a Souls Difficulty fan ^_^).
I am also learning VR things along the way as well regarding what people want, what they expect and so on ^_^ as well as assembly memory patching of matrices and oh boy... crazy stuff like this )))) (You think find a VALUE in memory is hard.. wait until you need to find a couple of matrices that aren't even in contiguous space and have swizzle rows/columns ^_^)
On a different note: Another YEAR, another Doom Eternal Patch
- The current fix still works, HOWEVER I noticed they broke the FOG/CLOUDS shader and maybe something else? I didn't check too much today (5 minutes tried 3 levels). I will plan to make an update once I get the Wolf2 VR mod/fix in a better state ^_^
So please bear with me (or don't update Doom Eternal yet ^_^).
Cheers,
Helifax

i agree with all the comments about wolf2, perfect job about quality/optimizations/fixes etc.., it looks gorgeous and light for the quality presented, but the aim needs improvements for sure, i would start with a laser sight/crosshair, but i'm looking forward for motion controls obviously dont care about making any action, just aim and it will become the best flat2vr mod to date!!

So.. Sniper Elite 5... anyone?
Believe it or not... the UI is the actual hard part in this game.... I've spent more time on the freaking UI then the rest of the ACTUAL game rendering.... One Shader for all the UI and the moment you try to add some depth.. it EXPLODES into all sort of weirdness...
Anywho A few images as seen above ^_^
Coming very soon
Cheers,
