Need help with my 1440p DIY VR HMD

Hey guys...

Okay, I'm working on a pretty cool project. When it's done it will essentially be a Super-HD Virtual Reality HMD. The display I found has a resolution of 2,560x1,440, which is essentially 1440p.

It's a pretty simple design, the main difference is the screen.

First, I found this pretty basic Cell Phone HMD :shutter

Image

You can get them on eBay for about 35 bucks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Google-Card ... 3ce5f5c3cf

Now here's the cool part. I'm planning on using a display from a LG G3, which, in terms of pixel density, is 50% clearer than even an Oculus Rift, which is extremely important when you're viewing pixels this closely.

Image

Here's where I found it: http://www.etradesupply.com/lg-g3-d850- ... white.html

But here's the part that I need help with. I have nooooooo idea how to wire this thing up to an HDMI port.

I found the "Guide - Vitrolight / Hydis LVDS connection via HDMI" thread which was somewhat helpful,

http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=15554

but obviously the LVDS Flex/ribbon cable from the LG G3 is going to have a completely different wiring configuration unless there's an adapter.

So my question is, does anyone know how I can figure this out? Either where I can find a wiring diagram for the LG G3, or an adapter, or a way to figure out/test which wires do what so I can splice them.

I also found one of these which might be helpful as well:

which may be useful, and can be found here: http://www.chalk-elec.com/?page_id=1280 ... d=14647633

But anyway, anyone have any thoughts on how to get this LG Display working with an HDMI output?

Thanks guys.

Update:

Okay I figured out a few new things

I found a couple wiring guides from different places, but not nearly what I really need

These are the connectors from the LG G3 I want to use. Maybe I can find an adapter, or I wonder if I cut the ZIF connector on the end off it will be compatible?

And this is the board from an LCD Panel that I need to hook the cell display into:

This is a connector I found that maybe I'll be able to use as an adapter:

Again, any tips/advice is more than welcome.

No advice I'm afraid, but Im very keen to see how you get on.

I got the same HMD from Aliexpress.
I bought a 7inch 1200x800 LCD,

But I WISH I bought the 5.6in version, as 7inches is too big for this HMD using tridef, the lenss don't go far enough.
If you watch vorpx videos on youtube it works, because that shrinks it down.

You can get 7inch monitor to work with games if you put it in 4:3, but that shrinks and stretches everything.

I would love to use this Ultra panel you found, if it can become an HDMI mirror monitor. But looks like a hell of a task!

Like your project... thinking about making one too... from this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/181575421682

What did you use for gyro? I am thinking of this http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-MINIX-NEO-M ... 43ce47bfd9 because it has a lithiumbattery and it supposed to be descent.

About the screen, you know how to make the LG screen work yet?
Quite intresting since here
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p ... 00#p155700
the person says 1280x800 isnt good enough... so i am not sure if I will order a 5.6 inch 1280x800 screen.

The riftup guys ask a lot of money, like 300 USD, and they wont sell the board only with the display.

This display;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultrathin-Full- ... RK:MESE:IT
Is a real 5.9, 1080x1920 pixel monitor with, 14leds in line, 8000cm/d2 backlite brig and 250cm/d2 LCM brig and contrast 700-1000.
It has an MIPI connection, but i can get an controllerboard from MIPI 2 HDMI which works.

However this MIPI screen has an 35 MS response time, but contrast and brightness seems to be better then the monitors below...;

The 5.6 inch 1280 x 800 display (HV056WX1-100), has a 30 MS response time
The 7 inch 1280 x 800 display (N070ICG LD1) has an 16 MS response time.

The MIPI seems to be the most expensive, then the 5.6 and then the 7.

Now my question is how about those response time, any experience???
It seems to me that 35 MS maybe is too much for a display for playing a FPS like Call of duty...or will i not even notice?
