Sixense Wireless Motion Tracking System!
UPDATE: The announcement has been made official, as indicated by the new thread title.
HUGE Sixense announcement in 1/2 hour
I just got "secret insider" knowledge of a HUGE Sixense announcement coming in 1/2 hour!
New Razer Hydra, or MakeVR? We shall see very soon!
Time to start pounding those F5 web browser page refresh keys?

Re: HUGE Sixense announcement in 1/2 hour
New Razer Hydra is the obvious choice. MakeVR is probably being sidelined.
Or maybe they're creating SecondLife V2? That'd be interesting. They seem to have a lot of disdain for SL V1. They're were talking a lot about Oasis in that demo with Jan.
Another possibility is other VR gear, haptic vest, full body motion capture, etc.

You posted the new announcement here while I posted it to a new thread:
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=17986
Notice how it has the same "Development Kit" label as the Rift DK?

Re: HUGE Sixense announcement in 1/2 hour
And I finally got a hold of a Razer Hydra today after weeks of looking in Norway...
Well, I will just use the Hydra as a wired "dev kit" until the consumer version of that thing shows up

Hm. The STEM looks like a shirt clip of some sort. Hoping this will allow the base to sit wherever and the clip can somehow translate if you're turning around on an ODT or something and still work with your back turned to it.

I have requested more information on pricing and availability, so I will keep you posted on whatever I am allowed to publish. Could be a belt clip too. Cool stuff!NightlHlawk wrote:Hm. The STEM looks like a shirt clip of some sort. Hoping this will allow the base to sit wherever and the clip can somehow translate if you're turning around on an ODT or something and still work with your back turned to it.
I wonder if there will be sensor fusion with the handheld motion trackers.

Awesome!!! Yesterday Source SDK -VR and today this, keep the good news coming!
Also is it just a coincidence that the design is very similar to this??
Reactive Grip Brings Tactile Feedback to the Razer Hydra
Yep it looks like that the STEM is the third tracker with a clip that you can attach anywhere (like the Rift, shirt or belt). Nice!Sixense wrote:Sixense will release development kits that will support three wireless motion trackers

the neat thing about this, is that you can now also build a wooden blank gun peripheral on which you can stick the hydras.

I wonder if the clip will act as a pedometer + positional as well, so it can communicate if you're walking/running/jumping/crouching.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jan has partnered with Sixense to provide him with this stuff for their integrated shoe solution.

but, but, but...
I would have liked support for 10 of those belt clip thingsies...
"One beltclip thingsie is enough" seems even more shortsighted than "640k memory is enough"....
on other news:
Hoooray for a wireless Hydra V2

Re: Sixense Wireless Motion Tracking System!
Heck yes! I was getting very worried when it sounded like the Hydra was being discontinued and not being replaced...
Sixense, catch!
Now I just hope the latency is uber-low... I have a Hydra (only tried it a couple of times thus far), and the latency is quite annoying... That, and hopefully decent build quality. Any word on whether they'll sell their souls to Razer again?

The buttons make sense as these things will be your controller. Think switching weapons, reloading, etc.RoTaToR wrote:yep! But now we need more infos!colocolo wrote:then this Revolution banner was only a joke preparing us for today....

5 is interesting, notice the two ports on either side of the clip. Maybe for shoe clips?

At least in the render, the box thing on the base station looks way bigger than the sphere in Hydra. Could a stronger magnetic field allow longer range?

Re: Sixense Wireless Motion Tracking System!
Oh, wow, just saw the comments about the other trackers... I figured that "3 trackers" meant that they were integrating more trackers into the controllers for better precision.
3 (plus two extra to buy separately)? Heck yes, please! It's really awesome that they're integrating the third tracker (and places to charge another two) into the design of it, rather than it being an after-thought... Shows they're gearing it specifically for VR

Yeah, development kit, means early release hardware that doesn't have all the kinks worked out.
:p
Oh well, better than nothing I guess!

They have shown us sympathy! They still love us! Based on the clip this is definitely geared for VR. Seems Sixense loves use a ton.

Re: Sixense Wireless Motion Tracking System!
Hopefully, now that Razer is out of the picture, it will have a higher build quality.
But it's price I'm concerned about. It could end up costing as much as a Rift DK... Which I will gladly pay if it has a tracking radius of 5 meters
That clip very likely is a shirt clip. The neck can only move so many ways. Plus, it needs to work for all future HMDs.

Nah, I wouldn't consider that wild speculation... It's obviously to clip on some other part of your body Which part is anyone's guess.RABID wrote:Wild speculation time: I wonder if that clip is to go on the rift headset to give us positional tracking?
If the extra to charging dock things are for ones for your feet, I hope they add support for a sixth before consumer release... One on each feet, one in each hand, one on the belt, and one on the head to add head positional tracking (that way you can bend over and pick stuff up).
EDIT: Hmm... Nevermind. I forgot that Oculus is working on adding positional tracking to the rift itself

Just when I got my hands on the Hydra
Oh well... I guess it's gonna be a while before these get released... which probably will be around the same time as I get my devkit sometime next year

I suspect that the clip is to keep the relative position of the hand controllers oriented with the player motions; i.e. as the player rotates, his "hands" rotate with him.

Very cool, and having tons of buttons is a must have for PC games. I assume it will auto-recharge when plugged into that holster/station, eliminating most battery issues.
I will be purchasing one.
