Samsung and Univ of Texas created an EEG mind reading net.
The video looks like they could have just used eye tracking but it claims to use EEG signals to detect repeating visual patterns.
I suppose that's why they have more electrodes on the back of the head where the visual system is at eh?
This the first news I've seen of this technology since NeuroSky hit the scene a while ago.
At the end of the video they do some crazy random mind reading with fruits and changing clothes.

That is just one small piece to the puzzle being solved in our quest for a Direct Neural Interface to VR. Many more pieces are in play now, and we are on our way. The RiftDK is just a tool to help get us ready!8bit wrote:Samsung and Univ of Texas created an EEG mind reading net.

This talk is about research done to allow a monkey to control a robotic arm, as well as a virtual arm- including receiving sensory feedback from the virtual arm.

I have been waiting most of my life for a Direct Neural Interface. Until then, my Rift and my Hydra will be my "Poor Man's" gateway to VR.Vulcan "mind meld" here we come!http://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-02-brain-to-brain-interface-transmission-tactile-motor.html wrote:Brain-to-brain interface allows transmission of tactile and motor information between rats
Researchers have electronically linked the brains of pairs of rats for the first time, enabling them to communicate directly to solve simple behavioral puzzles. A further test of this work successfully linked the brains of two animals thousands of miles apart—one in Durham, N.C., and one in Natal, Brazil.

The Real World as we know it will cease to exist, within our lifetimes. What the future will bring cannot yet be imagined. We will wake up one day to find ourselves in a future not unlike "The Matrix" and "SkyNet" and whatever other unpredictable elements get mixed into this self-determined mashup of the Real and the Virtual, with us inside there somewhere! Hopefully, The Rift and the new tools it spawns will help us prepare for our unavoidable future as best as we can. Whatever happens, we are in for a Wild Ride!

Wow thanks for the links. Those were really interesting.
Soon I'll be able to buy a cyborg arm, then learn kung fu by talking directly to the brain and then fight off hackers who will be trying to read or push data into it. Keeping your thoughts to yourself will become so much harder!
And we could build multi-core RatPUs. We just gotta be careful that they don't learn too much and take over the world. haha
I'm glad to see all of the progress on understanding the brain. These are exciting times.
