Fallout 3/New Vegas and Vireio

Post by squibbfire »

Cyber!

Has anyone tried the Vireio driver with Fallout 3? I see that Skyrim works, but I have not tried it with Fallout 3 yet.

Most likely games that are not listed as support won't work. This is because there is special code for each game/engine to get it to work. The only time this would be different is if the game used the same engine as another, then it may work.

For example, if there was another Source Engine game not on the list, you may be able to edit the "profiles.xml" and add that game. Copy the same settings from another Source game (like HL2) and just change the exe name. It may work.

Fallout 3 uses the Gamebryo Engine while Skyrim uses the Creative Engine.
Not having played Fallout 3 yet I would definitely give it a shot if there would be Oculus support :D

Hmmm I may just try that!

Especially Morrowind, since the minimum specs would be lower.

That's a consideration for people like me who can't spend thousands on their PC each year anymore.

Yeah Morrowind would be great to play through again! (especially with the HD Mod) Though its my understanding that text is pretty hard to read in the rift and Morrowind doesn’t have voice actors. I don’t believe Fallout 3 and Oblivion had that harsh of system requirements.

I have given away better computers than these: ;)

Fallout 3:
Minimum System Requirements: Windows XP/Vista 1GB System RAM (XP)/ 2GB System RAM (Vista) 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 256MB RAM (NVIDIA 6800 or better/ATI X850 or better) Recommended System Requirements: Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2 GB System RAM Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA 8800 series, ATI 3800 series

Oblivion:

3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
Minimum System Requirements:

Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse
Supported Video Card Chipsets:

Anyone have any updates on this? I've spent the past few days tweaking settings with the different versions of Vireio & forks, headtracking seems to work in all versions... Older versions of vireio don't render video, as mentioned above, and newer builds crash.

I'm also looking into the source to see if I can decipher what's going on, but I'm a c# junkie - haven't played with c++ since highschool.. anyone had any success with Gamebryo and Vireio?

I did find this on the list of issues for the fork - "Unwrapped surface being used in StretchRect (dest is unwrapped). This problem occurs immediately after the first intro video after starting a new game." This seems to be consistent for all Gamebryo/Havok games I have tested.

I truly need to wake up inside of FNV or Oblivion... jus' sayin. Thanks in advance!!

I basically got Fallout : New Vegas running using a tiny dll based on the perception source code. The problem is there are still crashes especially in case of area transition. I currently hardly try to compile the original perception source code to add this all.

But, at least enough now to "wake up in FNV", ;-) Please note that this is "experimental" and works only with Oculus Rift.

Here is the dll, source code added: ( Game process : "FalloutNV" -> select dll "RiftInject" -> start game using launcher )

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/139 ... _v1000.zip
(use included injector or any other dll-injector capable to inject at process-start)
