Sensics Announces New zSight 1920 HMD

Post by mahler »

I found this post. Over a week old, but didn't see any mention on this forum.
These seem to be coming quite soon also.
Lightweight design features better-than-HD1080 resolution and superb image quality

Columbia, MD, Jan 21st, 2013. Sensics, the professional HMD company, announced today a new line of high-performance HMDs. The first product in this line, the zSight 1920, features high resolution OLEDs with 1920×1200 pixels per eye, exceptional optics with a wide 72° field of view, large eye relief and eye box.

This lightweight (350g) product also includes a host of other features such as integrated motion tracking, audio, unique video modes and more. Shipping in early Q2, this product raises the bar for performance and portability in professional HMDs.

Sensics also announced a pre-order program which allows interested customers to receive substantial discounts and ensure that they are among the first to receive this new and exciting product.

Key benefits of the zSight 1920 include:
  • High-resolution 1920×1200 OLED displays delivering improved detail and visual acuity with a pixel density of 1.8 arcmin/pixel
  • Superb image quality with 72° field of view, eyeglass-compatible 23mm eye relief and a large and comfortable 12 mm eye box.
  • Lightweight design – just 350 gram (12 oz) for comfortable use over time
  • Wide choice of resolutions and video mode: single or dual input, 1920×1200, 1920×1080, 1280×1024 and side-by-side 3D offering a combination of performance and compatibility with existing applications.
  • Choice of strap-mount or helmet-mount configurations
  • Low power design with available battery operation and an ultra-low latency HD1080 wireless video link
  • Integrated peripherals including high-performance 3 DOF tracker, audio, microphone and embedded pushbuttons
“Across our key markets – training and simulation, academic research and visualization – our customers always seek higher resolution, a great viewing experience and comfortable packaging”, says Yuval Boger, CEO of Sensics. “The zSight 1920 delivers and is poised to set a new standard for high-performance HMDs”.

Customer shipments are expected to commence in early Q2, and the pre-order program allows customers to ensure they get their zSight 1920 sooner as well as enjoy substantial discounts.

Considering the zSight 1280x1024 is at $11,000 and the xSight 1920x1200 is at $39,000 I guess the zSight 1920x1200 will be in between, say at around $20,000. The price of 60 Oculus Rifts...

Hi,

Maybe the Sensics zSight display is based on Emagin's upcoming 1920 x 1200 85Hz WUXGA OLED display.

Visit Emagin for info: http://www.emagin.com/oled-microdisplays/

The WUXGA is designed with binocular stereovision applications in mind. As a result of the fast OLED
response time and the presence of a storage capacitor at each pixel, it has been verified that the
microdisplay can operate at low refresh rates without showing flicker.
This allows the displays to be used with a frame or field sequential (more generally known as time
sequential) stereovision mode using a single video input channel, and therefore providing a simple means
to leverage the capabilities of PC compatible computers using stereo compatible graphics adapters, such
as the Nvidia GeForce series. The frame sequential stereovision mode supported should follow the Video
Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Connector and Signal Standards for Stereoscopic Display
Hardware. This standard is available from VESA at http://www.vesa.org.

What is so far unannounced is the associated optics for this wider screen display. I suppose Emagin has a new optical design package for it too.

Thanks.
