Stereo photos with a normal camera

Post by purifier »

I've just tried it with my Nikon J1, shooting 2 images shifting position by a couple inches and angle by a couple degrees,
the only problem is I won't receive my 3DTV before 6 days so I can't verify the results yet, can you pleas do it for me?
Have I done something wrong and, in that case, do you have suggestions on how to do it right? Thanks!
Ps:I've used Microsoft paint for the "editing" so please don't laugh :) The desired effect would be to view the flashlight
as it were a few centimeters from the eyes, but considering the empirical measurements I doubt my success :(

I was just free-viewing, but it looks cool to me.

Maybe the 3D effect is a little too much for such a small/close object, but its OK I guess.

Thanks for the feedback, two more questions: does it give you headache for bad convergence?
Does the 1:78 format restore the original size, stretching back the image?

The convergence is not so bad, but usually you want to shoot parallel (not toed-in).

If you watch on an HDTV it will stretch the SBS image into the normal 16:9 aspect ratio.

Great, thanks again for the advice, I'll wait for the TV to arrive to make further attempts though ;)

It seems I've nailed it this time, less IOD and no "toeing in" :-)

A little bit of popping on the bayonet equals to a little bit of ghosting, but maybe only on my cheap Samsung TV...

Thanks, it seems I was pushing the camera too far before, now I only move it a couple centimeters between the shots :D

Apparently I'm having issues with this one, the TV gives me strange blinking little lines when I activate 3D on it,
am I the only one experiencing it?
