Help understanding passive and active refresh rates for 3d

Post by butmunch »

Hi,
Somebody got me thinking so i'm just here looking for questions to my answers if possible.

Here goes and lets just say this is linked to 60fps 3d gaming ;)

1) Active 3dtv's refresh at 120hz, 60hz per eye gives 60fps.

2) Passive 3dtv's refresh at 60hz, each interleaved image gives 60hz as both images are displayed at once unlike active that displays one after the other, or does passive still refresh at 120hz.

3) Does passive have 2 30hz interleaved images that make 60hz

What's your thoughts on this, links to solid proof would be nice if possible.
I have my own view at the mo but i'll not taint any further replys with my view yet.

Thanks for your time and help.

1) Yes, active is 120Hz total; 60Hz per eye.
2) Passive is 60Hz total, but also 60Hz per eye (since both frames are shown simultaneously).
3) No. Passive is 60Hz. Though technically they could do passive at 120Hz or greater, they just haven't thus far.

Cheers Cybereality, that's what i thought, passives are 60hz at the moment.
