I watched it, and wasn't impressed in the least. Are we sure this isn't a conversion?

To me it looks just like in the cinema and way bettar than any of these conversions that always looks bad when I watch them not crosseyed. The (moderate) 3D looks flat if You sit to close to the monitor, it looks bettar if You sit a few meters away which is more like in the cinema.

It's not a conversion (in that case conversions are fine with me). Avatar looks a lot better on a bigger screen though. The source media probably could have a little higher quality but is more than watchable.
Remember that moviemakers just can't use the same high separation as the ordinary stereogamer. Which means a lesser effect also.

I don't know, it looked rather flat to me. But now that I think about it, it looked kinda flat in the theaters too...

"it looked rather flat to me."

Also to me, but only the wide scene at the beginning.
But as sayed before for a 2,5 hour movie on a big imax screen, high separation
can make headache. And even little separation can look good on a very big screen.
I dont think they make a wider separated version for 3dtv-s. Or maybe this is the reason why
it will be only available in 2011? :o

I sit 5.5 feet from my 61" display, and the 3D effect didn't look very good to me, it looked very flat.

9 feet from my 9 foot display, it looks absolutely great. Even better after playing with the parallax settings.

Yes, some of the scenes are very flat - I guess Cameron is a n00b :D
The thing is when the cinema screen is 20 meters away he can't really use a big difference between the 2 views (because 3D objects 20 meters away looks very similar to the 2 eyes). So when You watch the 2 very similar views close up it looks flat. With the toe-in cameras the pop-out is reduced.
I do think some of the scenes look very good and some very flat, I sit 2.5 meters away. I don't undastan why he made it like that, but I have still seen it many times 8-)

Ok, I take my comments back. The first one I downloaded didn't have English audio, and looked like crap. I happened to look on 3D-Blog yesterday, and they had a higher quality version (from the original source) with English audio. It looked pretty freakin' good.

Ok, I am downloading the full quality video now. My comments were based on the YT3D version.

it has a higher separation?
or "just" a better quality?

Separation is fixed. Everything else would be conversions.

Yes, I watched the 1080P side-by-side video and it looked a whole lot better than what was on YouTube. There was a good amount of depth to it and in some ways it may have looked even better than in the theater. Still not at the level of a 3d game, but it looked nice for sure.
