I haven't checked this with 3D glasses yet. Is it actually a 3D image? The separation looks extremely low.

It is indeed a stereoimage (checked x-eyed and anaglyph) but as you say L & R views are quite similar. There's a possibility that it could be made from a 2d-photo though. I've been fooled by good imageconversions before.

this is an actual 3d image - the mars rover has some 3d cameras on board

They also found this, which looks almost like a piece of a pyramid:

Yeah. It's not all sand and dust.
It's probably a natural size artwork of a martian. The pyramids would seem really small when looked upon from mars.
