I would suggest you to wait for CES in January...I don't think there are any other 120 Hz monitors other than the ones you wrote about...
Also, why not consider plasma? That it, if you are ok with at least 37"...

Both Acer and LG had announced similar models. (None are actually available yet.)

You can easily opt either of the three below stated monitors for the gaming purpose of your kid....Because in recent times even I have purchased one of them for my son on his birthday.....
1. IZ3D H220z1
2. Hyundai W220S
3. Zalman ZM-M220W

All the three suggestion stated above are really good but the IZ3D H220z1 seems to be the best one with all the excellent features.

I think you can buy the Viewsonic VX1940w LCD for your PC.
It has 19-inch monitors have a resolution of 1400 by 900 pixels, the VX1940w has a resolution of 1680 by 1050 pixels.
Horizontal Synchronization Range
24 - 82 kHz
Vertical Synchronization Range
50 - 85 Hz
I hope this is the model which you are looking for.
The harder you fall, the higher you bounce.
