Hi
In spring 2007 acording to a Nvidia guy. So it can't be long since spring 2007 has passed allready.
Since 3D is getting much attension these days and Nvidia has just launched some amazing(?) product (making computers 50-500) times faster(?) - they are probably very very busy.
The 7900 cards are great cards - buy one and play in 3D - when the 8800 driver arrives - sell the card or give the card to someone in Your family. Then buy some Nvidia stock (NVDA) because they are rising which will give free money to buy their graphics cards :) just my tips

lol, heck, the world is ending in 2012... didn't you read the bulletin?

(the mayans wrote it)

Long term investment in Nvidia would pay off, if you are one of the lucky survivors (if you call that lucky!)

eh, jk, go ahead, spend freely, what do I care, the world is ending, eat...drink... be merry ( and game)

Not only that - but on april 13 2036 an asteroide will come close to earth (with a 1:2 - 1:45.000) chance of hitting.
(I must remember to take a 3D photo of the asteroide).

No news on the 8xxx 3D driver. In case someone wants to ask Nvidia remember don't ask in forum - ask through graphics cards manufactor or via Nvidia support for best result.

Nvidia support? Where? I can't find any way of contacting them. However i've mailed my card manufacturer (BFG-tech) about the issue regarding stereodrivers. Not yelling at them though since the error is at the Nvidia side...
I once have been one of those pointing out that we should be patient also.... But it's well over a half year ago some of us bought these card and there are no decent drivers yet! :/. At least BFG-tech might be able to get some answers as i'm not able to get any. I really like the effort "Nullbit" makes in another thread about trying to get some programmers together for this issue.
However i still believe it's Nvidias sake to provide us with drivers though. For stereogamers who bought these cards the situation is like bying a new car and find out it runs on some other petrol that you have to invent/manufacture yourself...

So at least they hear some costumer yelling about it. lol. Even so i think they also hear from Neil and co who does their best to push things over.

Nice job. If everybody did that (and Neil's excellent effort too <-- Our champion) maybe, just maybe, they would recognize the problem. To my knowledge writing in the Nvidia forum officially has no effect.
Maybe we should send them a "Request 3D driver development pls" letter from the 3D community signed with all our signatures/names. Just a polite letter to let them know how we miss their excellent work on 3D drivers and that we eagerly await the next outstanding 3D driver supporting the superior top Nvidia graphics cards which marvels Our eyes every time we turn on our computers...
I must admit I have no idea how to get these guys to move faster and I also have no idea why 3D is not standard. Can't stand gaming in 2D. It looks wrong . :)

Hi Guys,

I like the idea of approaching the third party NVIDIA vendors and explaining the importance of the drivers. I'd like to suggest a stipulation.

It's very important to be positive. If members take the angle of "how dare NVIDIA not release drivers reliably" etc. etc., nothing good would come of it. Read through the NVIDIA forums, and I think you will agree that this is the case. That's why MTBS had to be formed!

On the other hand, if we were to approach the 3rd party manufacturers and express how much we enjoy buying their cards BECAUSE of the drivers, that will have a much better, more positive impact and response.

For the third party manufacturer, they will see the value of their repeat buying customers, and for NVIDIA, the word will get back, and instead of reacting to a less than positive message, it will be "Hey! This department is important - let's get them the resources they need".

Finally, I want our members to earn a reputation for getting results through positive action and words. The other way is most likely going to close doors or hurt relationships. We NEED those relationships for our efforts to succeed.

Well, this is kinda an expression that i really miss stereodrivers for the 8800 series.
And i really liked their product so much that i actually have bought another Nvidia card cause of the missing stereofeature in the 8800... :P
I'm sorry but i'm out of patience.

I sent this email to Gainward Europe support:
"Hi

I would like to buy the 8800GTX, but there is no consumer Nvidia 3D driver for it. When will there be one do You know?
I always play in 3D so I'm stuck with my excellent Gainward 7800GS+.

Kind regards"

That's better! That's what I mean. :P

It avoids putting people on the defensive, and they will probably start asking questions like "What's stereoscopic 3D" and "what are these stereo drivers"?

Likay, your concept is correct - the technique just needed a little softening.

The only problem with this is that it doesn't use the word stereo or stereoscopic anywhere. When most people see "3D" they don't think of the kind of 3D we're concerned with. As far as they're concerned the card is a 3D accelerator, which processes 3D graphics.

"Consumer Nvidia 3D driver" could simply refer to the standard driver, and "I always play in 3D" may not mean anything to someone who isn't familiar with this stuff.

LOL true. Stereoscopic does sound kinda odd and oldish though, I like S-3D (or True 3D or maybe something else?) better.

You need to use a term that someone can type into Google or Wikipedia and instantly see a ton of information about it. The fact that "stereoscopic" sounds a bit odd is a bonus, because it will stand out and make them take notice. Things like S-3D and True 3D sound like brand names or something.

We really need to stick with "stereoscopic" because it accurately and specifically describes what we're talking about. We can't change the terminology without creating confusion.

Clarity of communication must be your highest priority.

ok clarity yes, but try google stereoscopic...

I got a reply from Gainward (manufactor of my graphics card):

"Hello, witch driver you need for witch system?
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downl ... river.html
regards"

so I wrote back:

"Hi

Thank You for the reply. I play with 3D glasses (stereoskopic/true
3D) so I use this driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dstereo_91.31
and the Forceware 91.31 (both must be installed for 3D to work).
but it does not work with the 8800 series graphics cards.
So I can't buy a Gainward 8800 card. Could You ask/request Nvidia for
a newer 3dstereo driver for the 8800 card?
Thanks in advance. (Many people I know need this driver).

Kind regards

When googling stereoscopic, the first result is the wikipedia article on stereoscopy, followed by a full page of relevant results.

Make sure you're typing it correctly ;)

final reply from Gainward support:

"Hello, that is the bug from 93.31, but newer don?t support 3D
glasses. Ignore this message. Nvidia definitive no more support 3D
glasses and means CRT is death.

Clearly the guy has never heard of S-3D so no help from Gainward
Worth a shot though

When does the consumer 3D driver for the GF 8 series come out please?

Just arrived from a week of vacation and in a way better mood too!
Going to contact BFG-support again and ask (more kindly :) ) if they could get a hint from Nvidia about any release date for stereodrivers.

Cheers

Letter:

Hi there!
In November 2006 i bought a Nvidia BFG 8800 GTX 768MB and the product works great though.
However there has been quite some time now and there are still no stereodrivers for this card. Since the drivers seems to take a long time to develop i've bought a 7900 just for being able to play in true3D. The result is that i don't use the 8800-card at all.
Anyway: I just wonder if you could get a hint or something from Nvidia when stereodrivers for this card are ready? If not for anything else, just for letting them know that the true3D-feature is really wanted.

Best regards

Well, I never heard from Nvidia.

I found this old survey where I "didn't find what I was looking for" and so I requested "Consumer 3D Stereo Drivers" for the GeForce 8800 series:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_27690.html

I don't know whats going on. I found numerous articles on the web about how 3D is going to be the next big thing in movies (James Cameron want to make 3D movies etc.) and all the new 3D TV's that emerging so that ppl can watch the sports in 3D. The new iZ3D monitor and a lot of professionel companies that uses 3D (medical, CAD/CAM etc.).
But no new Nvidia 3D driver. Really strange  and annoying
