Trackmania clips for crosseyed viewing.

Post by Likay »

Stereoscopic player also works, choose side-by-side right image first as input format.
Videocodec: H264, resolution: 720(1440)x576 pixels
Soundcodec: Mp3 128kbit/sec cbr
Any decent and recent codecpack (K-lite,ffdshow etc) should do the trick if you only get a black picture. Vlc-player plays them straight on without hazzle.
Clips are somewhere around 30-40 megs, around one minute each.

Tracks are from the "Let's rock" trackmania server. I'm relatively new on it but the tracks on it rocks!

Cheers!

It's been a while since i haven't made a TrackMania video, maybe i should get back in the TM videomaking.
Will check the vids when i get back home this evening.

Don't expect too much. :o
Some of the tracks i have only run for a very few times (i'm new at Let's rock server) and there are quite a few more challenging and awesome tracks. if you know a good server with similar i'd be happy to know about it. :D

i noticed a lot of tearing (v-sync off) ad some weird graphics artifacts.
I see you you recorded live but what recording method did you use ?
did you know that trackmania's replay editor allow you to export your replay straight to stereo 3D side-by-side video ?

It looks like the eyes are really sensitive for just a slight bit of unsynced frames and this gives trouble using this method. Not fun that anyone else saw it.
I think the tearing is because of the recording method (dual vga-to-tv boxes and recordable dvd's, different brands but they gives very similar images). :/ I get interlaced (because the recorders only seem to sample a whole picture at the half frame rate?) views from the vcrs and used a deinterlacer (yadif,top,bob...etc etc) when compressing the vids. Deinterlacer works fine but it may actually increase the feeling of frames in unsync. It might be better to turn off that filter when you have fast moving screens like this (interlacing between two images might be slight visible but tearing less noticeable). Going to try it later on but i really think the result will be almost the same.
It works best when i have 75Hz refreshrate (probably becuse it's 25Hz from the vga-boxes) but i'd like to know a way to syncronize the boxes. They give the final images that's recorded. The recorders should adapt to the signal given to them i think. In that case it would work great. Until then.. :(

Lol! I have some old replays saved but most of the times i don't really like the default replayviews. I think it might be possible to edit the views afterwards but i never got involved with it. Tm vids should easily be fixed using edited replays though.

The best sync is acomplished by using TM native L/R mode like i'm doing now but recording only one screen. It takes away all the joy of playing though and i have really problem playing on a smaller screen without 3d, even crosseyed. :(

Would be great if i could get it to work properly but now i'm not too optimistic. It works well when scenes are not moving too fast but...
You think v-sync (yes, had it off) might help a little too? I originally thought that the tearing came from the recorders but i'm going to try tinkering a bit with vsync as well. Thanks for your tips but i'm no longer sure this is really a great method to record stereo though.

vsync will help (always) to improve quality and sync.
The only big question is : do the boxes automatically adapt to the sync or do they just follow their own clock ?

The trackmania replay editor is VERY VERY VERY powerful, you can definitely fix this, you just won't get the interface, although i think there is a function to re-enable the HUD but i have never used it.

Thanks for info!
Youre spot on the problem regarding the vga-boxes.
The vga-boxes indeed have their own clock. However they seem to lock on very good when i use a 75Hz refresh from the computer. The problem is that syncing can only be perfect 1/3's of times (comp refresh 75Hz/vga output refresh 25Hz)...
Let's say the frames from the computer are numbered 1...2...3...1...2...3... etc then one vgabox maybe locks on all the 1's and the other locks on the 1's 2's or the 3's... This is the main problem. If both boxes locks on the same frames they're synced. I think the recorders are not involved because they follow the signal from the boxes.
I've tried a common power switch for both boxes which turns on the power to them simultaneusly but the results are quite random. Another way might be if it's possible to turn off the outputs (turn off, not blacken) of the graphiccard for a certain amount of time. The boxes will most certainly sync when the outputs comes back (if the outputs are enabled exactly at the same time). I haven't tinkered anything with this but one way might be simply changing drivermode of nvidia (clone to horisontal stretch and such altering always causes at least a black screen for an amount of time, if the outputs really are off or just blackened i don't know). I just got this idea and will try tomorrow.

Vsync seems to give better results but the syncproblem still remains.

I've tried making videos without deinterlacing filter but then it always looks worse.

Ok so my guess is that you should be able to get better results if you managed to sync the output refresh rate with the vge boxes.
The vga boxes use 25fps + interlacing so that should be able to work with 50Hz signals.

I know it should be possible to make windows output at 50Hz, the only issue is that you must force the graphics drivers to do it.
I have a feature do do it with the nvidia driver, unfortunately it always crashes for me si i have to use 60Hz with 60Hz recording.

If you were able to record at 60Hz (30fps + interlacing) you would be able to resync the videos when editing with 100% accuracy when deinterlacing (or using a video editor that understand double frame deinterlacing)
I do not know about your recording boxes, but most of them can do both PAL and NTSC signals. this will reduce your recording resolutin to 720x480 x2 but will provide the good sync.

The boxes for my country are PAL only. Different versions for different countries. Unfortunately they cannot do any mode in 50Hz either (I've tried quite some time ago but gave it a shot more with no luck) .
http://www.grand.com.tw/pctv_handview2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (i have the II-verson without NTSC).
Recording with 60Hz works but gives the most awful results since the output is fixed to 25Hz. All other modes than 75Hz unsyncs with the video and makes the picture "jumping" especially in fastpaced sceneries.
I know a solution (manipulation of the hardware) but i want to try if there's a simple one first...
The program i mainly use is a slight older version of Avidemux.
In combination with the stereomoviemaker it's the only app i need.
