I ran DX11 games in 3DV on driver 456.71

Post by Lysander »

Making this post to document an interesting thing that happened to me about a month ago - I mentioned it on discord but want to create a permanent post on the forum.

IIRC it happened like this: I had 425 installed, but then it autoupdated to 456.71. So without DDU I used 3dfm to install 452.06. And then next day windows updated to 456.71 but in a broken state (see control panel screenshot). All this on Win10 Pro 20H2.

I ran 2 games, both of which triggered 3DV - The Ascent and Dirt Rally 2, both DX11. UF2's OSD did not show up in The Ascent, that's why I noticed something was wrong and saw the driver situation was messed up. I also couldn't control convergence with the usual F5/F6. But 3D was on.

The reason this is interesting is obvious - anything past 452.06 was not supposed to have 3DV driver code and couldn't be used to trigger 3DV in DX11. Perhaps this shows that somehow it's possible to work around that without changing the driver code and at least trigger 3DV in post-452.06 drivers, maybe even on post-20xx series cards? I don't know, but that's the hope.

I attach two screenshots of the nV CP and 3DFM driver tab:

If possible please check nvwgf2umx.dll file for any reference to stereo or 3D Vision with hex editor.

I no longer have that 456.71 setup. I cleaned up and am on 425 now.

Why did you go back down to 425 if 456.71 was working?

As per my post, the CP was broken and I couldn't adjust 3D settings in-game.

Theoretical nvwgf2umx.dll from System32 can be edit with old 456.02 3d vision code but sure will get blue screen, maybe someone with skill can look at this possibility.

Seems your system messed up with the driver and there where residues from the old one. At the end there is no 3DV call in drivers later 452.22 (dx11) and no 3DV files also. There is no way to run 3DV on it. So something partially gets wrong with your system that it was possible but at the end you should not have a 3DFIX because if the OSD issnt shown, the d3d11.dll means migoto wasnt hoocked up OR your screen trioggered 3D but the game was 2D.
