Hi all,
My name is Tova and I homemade my personal VR walking system because I can't wait for omni or virtualizer and because I love made things myself.
I used allumninum profiles.
You can jump, sit and turn around.
I used kinects xbox360 for detect the positions and movement and wiimote for controller.
I used it with oculus DK2.
it's first prototype and need some adjustment but It works well.
I am waiting for your comment ....
Tova

Yes, the base is a flat woodden plane with a slippery surface. I use silicon oil on it to have more slipper surface.

Really nice job Tova, congratulations!!
Crouch and jump is not an issue but I think everyone stuck at WASD functions of feet movements without Kinect or Wii* ( *which is not very effective )
Keep it up the great work!

Re: DIY VR walking system
The wiimote on its own will never be effective for positional tracking which you need for proper WASD, because you rely only on IMUs. However, when combined with a ceiling velcro-mounted phone and Freetrack, it does provide a good alternative. I put together such a solution for a couple of hours last weekend. I still need to calibrate the walking trigger, but you get the idea. Note that this is a very early stage and rather a proof of concept.RVR wrote:Really nice job Tova, congratulations!!
