Walk on the Real Surface of Mars in Virtual Reality

Post by metalqueen »

Developer Millionviews is creating a game that lets you walk on the real surface of Mars in Virtual Reality.

In his Oculus form post he explains in more detail what his future plans are for this exciting and semi educational experience.

The last couple of months there has been done a lot of work on creating a realistic terrain based upon real satellite data from Mars. (the data was provided by HiRise) Since then, the game has been published at the space expo in the Netherlands. Somewhere in August, finally the DK2 arrived and of course, the first thing to try was, can we get the Rift in our Mars project. One need some real fast and dedicated 3d workstation in order to run the demo with some fancy detailed terrain looks. Here, the demo has been tested with a Rift on a Macbook pro early 2013 and the classic mode runs fine at some 60/75 fps.
