Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
Hope someone can help~
Just got a sweet new box: win7 64-bit, dual Xeon quad, 12gb RAM, nVidia 3800 (with stereo port, of course). I installed BIOSHOCK, it ran fine (in 2D, so far) which is great since it wouldn't run on my P4 machine. I updated the nVidia driver for 3ds MAX (which was way slow under original driver) but then BIOSHOCK didn't run! I found a patch, that didn't help. Should I re-install? Tweak the .ini file? Any ideas?
thanks...

Hi Ron!
Always good to see a friendly face! How have you been?
I don't know enough about the NVIDIA 3800. Is it a Quadro card?
What can you tell us about your 3D solution?
Regards,
Neil

Hey, Neil...
I was hoping you were there~
The FX 3800 is a Quadro card... the whole system is new, so I'm just setting up. I intend to go with the nVidia setup for games, but now I can't get the only game I own to run!
You've been busy... great interview with Frank Vitz. The SpiderMan ride is incredible, I've visited the Klieser-Walscak studio in Western MA!

Ahah!
Yeah, Frank is great. I am very appreciative to have met him.
Are you running the GeForce 3D Vision right now, or are you using anaglyph glasses?
If you are using anaglyph, you can try the DDD and iZ3D solutions to see if they work. If you have the NVIDIA, what happens when you try to run the game? Error message, anything?
Regards,
Neil

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
I haven't even addressed the 3D part yet! Just updated the driver, and when I try to start BIOSHOCK, just get a blank screen. It worked fine before update, but even when I rolled back the driver it won't play. So I don't know if I should reinstall or reset the ini file...? I'm a total newbie when it comes to games...

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
I see. So just updating the driver impacted the game?
Ok. Try these steps:
1. Uninstall the GeForce/Quadro drivers completely.
2. Reinstall the drivers.
3. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and download the latest version.
4. If necessary, uninstall and reinstall Bioshock and remember to patch the game.
Also, you may want to try running the game with a "Compatibility" mode setting. Right click on the Bioshock logo, select "Properties", select "Compatibility", and then go with Windows Vista or XP or whatever you can find that works. You can also try running the game as "Administrator".
Regards,
Neil

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
Thanks, I will try that with the new drivers. I did have to setup BIOSHOCK in XP sp2 mode to get it running in the first place... forgot to mention that!
Will let you know how it goes...

DAMN
Did all that, still won't run. This stuff can really be frustrating, and I've not even done any 3D yet!!

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
I wonder if it's now a registry issue... what a pain~

Don't play with the registry.
When it worked before, what was different?

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
GOOD news...
In COMPATIBILITY tab, I checked "Disable Desktop Composition", "Disable Display Scaling" and "Run as Administrator".
Not sure which worked, but it seems to be running fine now (though I lost my saves, of course! Well, I need the practice!)

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
I had changed nothing except the video driver, and everything went to hell!
At least there were some buttons to press... luckily some combination worked (see previous post)

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
I can't get Bioshock to run in 3D with the latest Nvidia driver. 2D runs fine and 3D worked with drivers from last year. Latest driver, no dice.

Re: Updated driver destroys BIOSHOCK
You're using nVidia's 3D system? and it won't work with current nVidia driver?
Gotta love it!
