Panelists include Buzz Hays (Sony Pictures Imageworks), David Seigle (In-Three), Neil Schneider (Meant to be Seen), Peter Wilson (High Definition & Digital Cinema Ltd), and Chris Chinnock (Insight Media).
There were some fireworks between MTBS and Buzz Hays, but the best was the instant "Snake Oil Salesman" remarks coughed up by Peter Wilson after NEXT3D was discussed in the panel. For those unfamiliar, NEXT3D is a company that has developed S-3D movie distribution via gaming consoles, and a mechanism for encoding Blu-ray discs in 3D without the need for updated players for distribution. NOTE: The Blu-ray encoding technology was never intended or framed as a replacement for quality S-3D standards.
It is interesting that the fellow advocates went on the attack instead of the embrace. Perhaps the "Snake Oil Salesman" remark wouldn’t have come up had it been revealed that NEXT3D is co-founded by DJ Roller, Cinematographer for James Cameron’s "Ghosts of the Abyss" (AKA 3D Titanic)? With NABSHOW being so focused on 3D talk, talk, talk - perhaps the panel wasn’t prepared for action, action, action!
