In SHADOWoftheTOMBRAIDER you can now easily activate DX12-3DVision (updated v2.0)

Post by TimFx7 »

This topic has been completely replaced on DECEMBER 23, 2020 . There are now three new solutions proposed. Folks, it would be great if you write under this title as feedback if these methods work for you.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider 3DVision-DX12 Launcher (Ultimate)
• I experienced an increase of approximately 10-15 fps in Dx12. And uses the Cores in your processor more efficiently, offers a smoother gaming experience. Also Dx12-3D-SLI support in this game works great performance. There is no other game that you can benefit from SLI so much.
Note : Dx12 is not supported on Windows 7.

My monitor: Asus PG278Q
Game version: build 298.0_64

--------------------------------------------------------------------
DECEMBER 23, 2020
3D-DX12 Launcher (Ultimate).7z
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Start3D.exe for SOTTR Source code is available here. (C++)
3DLauncher.exe Source code is available here. (Autohotkey script)
Start3D.exe for ROTTR Source code is available here. (C++)

Install : Start3D.exe , 3DLauncher.exe, Splash.jpg , Leopard.jps , QRes.exe files should be copied to the game folder. "steamapps\common\Shadow Of The Tomb Raider\"
• I created Start3D.exe to activate "DX12 3D Vision" option in Shadow of the Tomb Raider (v.2.0 all processors are now supported) . If you start Start3D.exe after starting the game DX12 3D support within the game will be automatically activated.
• In some versions of Windows the game crashes if 3D is started. If you meet this situation. just run 3DLauncher.exe it will set everything automatically and start the game itself.
• When the game menu screen is displayed, 3D is automatically activated by itself. If you run into a problem, switch to Windows 10 TaskView with the Windows + Tab or Alt +Tab key to re-enable 3D.
• If Start3D.exe is run alone, it will give an error message and shut itself down after 60 seconds. Activating Start3D.exe and 3DLauncher does not bring an extra load to the processor.

• If all these do not give you successful results, you can use Cheat Engine 7 program. Load the DX12-3D-pointer.CT file located in the folder using cheat engine. https://youtu.be/SMAHaIrfGvw?t=38 After loading, Select check box if you want 3D to always be active.
• if 3d closes again. Switch to Windows 10 TaskView with the Windows+Tab or Alt+Tab key. Click on the game window again, return to the game. 3D will be activated automatically.
• Game will display as 2D DX12. if the graphics look bad at this time, graphics will be fix when 3D is activated.

Separation & Popout: Even if 3d is active in game, depth and convergence setting is not active in menu.
What you need to do to change these settings : In menu, Stereoscopic option "side by side" as a mark. Do not try to adjust with the mouse. Use the arrows on the keyboard. Then, mark and move Separation with arrows, 3D turns off automatically. When you switch to 2D, press Up arrow key on keyboard select Stereoscopic again as side by side. After that, you can move the sliders to your liking. To re-enable 3D, switch to Windows 10 TaskView with the Windows+Tab or Alt+Tab key. Click on the game window again, return to the game. 3D will be activated automatically. I showed you how it was done in video https://youtu.be/KbyEpQYwh1U?t=144

Thanks to everyone who contributed with their feedback.

Thanks for the information. I have yet to play SotTR but I intend to do it soon.

So only one question remains: How will can I get 1.0.237.6 legally? Via Steam it is not an option anymore or is it?

This guide shows you how to downgrade your game to a specific version. It's cumbersome but works.

Can anyone confirm if this actually works? I'm still on 1809 and I've tried to get SOTTR working with DX12 a few times now with 237.6 and I don't feel like re-downloading that build all over again from Steam Depository as it's quite a convoluted and tiring process.

So I gave this a try, although since the downgrade process is so annoying I just downloaded a guybrush version on 237.6. I loaded the profile provided on the 3d vision manager profile of the game, configured the game options and the 3d fix options as showed, checked on nvidia inspector that the yellow path are like shown, and launch the game in 2d with 3d vision fix manager. However, i only have side by side option for 3d once in game. If I turn 3d on, the game boots in broken 3d, and when I enable in game options 3d, the game freezes completely in the options menu, so I'm not sure what am I doing wrong.

Well the bad news is that I can't get dx12 to work no matter what.

However the good news is that using that profile I could finally get dx11 version to work on the latest steam version, something I coulnd't no matter what I did before, just started the game with only full screen on, once inside the game turned exclusive fullscreen on, set 120hz and stereo on and bam, perfect 3d vision, loaded my old steam save and mindblowing 3d, so thanks for this even though it was not originally intended for dx11 3d vision.

Did you follow OP's instructions to the letter?

Thanks for this though, I had a feeling it wouldn't work, you saved me a lot of time and data.

Ok please post your results, I remember Helifax on the older thread and NV forum stating that 3D Vision worked for him with a pirated version of the game as well but that he wasn't sure about the same version from Steam Depository.

I'm also on Windows 1809. What's the best way to update to 441.08 at this point? 3D Fix Manager or Losti's method?

Honestly, I don't have any moral qualms with just pirating the game considering I already purchased it and am only doing so to try to get 3D Vision to work. If it boils down to that being the issue I will just pirate it. I will wait to see if you can get it working with the same build from Steam Depository though. If you can, PM me where you got it from if that is the problem. Thanks!

Losti's method always works. I am using 3dfixmanager in driver updates. sometimes, the latest driver update does not appear on 3DFixmanager , then, I go back to the Losti's method.

In other matters, within a few days, I'll make a detailed sharing. ;)

Have you tried version 237.6 from Steam Depository yet to see if that works? Is it necessary to update to 441.08? I'm on 436.02, I am willing to bet that it will work with that driver, just wanted to check first, really don't feel like updating the driver until I absolutely have to as Losti's method is a bit laborious. I believe 441 showed up in 3D Fix Manager as an available update the last time I ran that. Thanks for all of the help with this, honestly I'm still incredulous that this even works considering I put a great deal of effort into getting it to work at this point, but I take your word for it.

I have the same everything as you, there is no reason it shouldn't work if I don't follow the instructions correctly.

After the new method I shared on November 3, you do not need to follow the instructions in this section.
I've completely updated the first message.See there for details.

Nvidia Inspector profile.rar
finally tested. yes definitely it is working in the legal version. (1.0.237.6)
436.30 (3dfixmanager) , 436.48 (3dfixmanager), 441.08 (Losti's method) I have used these drivers worked smoothly.

My desktop screen, for readability of the letters, I record the video as 3D 4K with the DSR (3840 x 2160) method.
I tried to show the system I used in the video in detail. video recording was made continuously. After showing the system properties I start the game. In the video you can observe also that legal version of the game. Ignore the results of benchmarking in the video. because 4k video was being recorded at the same time.

You can use this software to easily download 4K quality videos.

Amazing work TimFx7, but right now i'm fine playing the latest version with 3d vision on dx11, it looks amazing anyway, so I'm not messing with version downgrade. Hopefully this will work for other people, and thanks again for the profile you provided that activated 3d vision again and worked great with dx11.

Thanks I'm glad that the sharing I've done somehow works for you.(dx11)
I experienced an increase of approximately 10 fps in dx12. And it also offers a smoother gaming experience. ;) also this game 3D dx12 SLI performance is awesome.

I was going to tell skyrimer how DX12 is much better for CPU's of greater core count, especially in CPU intensive areas that you reach once you hit the Amazon jungle and especially Paititi (think Geothermal Valley on crack in terms of number of NPC's, which is extremely taxing on the CPU, I have a CPU bottleneck here in DX11 WITHOUT 3D Vision with an i7 8700k @ 5.0 GHz actual across all cores, this game is completely unplayable in DX11 with 3D Vision because of 3 core bug in this area. In fact I was mostly happily enjoying SOTTR in 3D Vision up until first hitting the Amazon jungle, after the SPOILER ALERT, plane crash scene and then it was basically unplayable in Paititi. We're talking 35 FPS with 65% GPU utilization.)

I'm tempted to try your fix, I would need to do a lot of work to get it going though. I noticed you state that you got it to work with 436.30, any idea if 436.02 would work? Not having to update the display driver would be awesome but I'm not sure if it will work.

Dude seriously though, you have put so much work into this, even going so far as listing all of the Steam Depository files need, I am so grateful, I just wanted to let you know that this is really appreciated.

What's the effect of following all the steps BUT using the latest game version? I used a CheatEngine table Schwing gave me that enables the 3D Vision setting in the launcher for DX12. But the problem is that the game game is effectively in 2D for me, although the separation bar moves the image and GPU usage shows the usage of 3D. However, launching it in DX12 with 3D Vision disabled in the launcher makes it launch in 3D but with broken graphics, ironically.

I just wanted to know if this is exactly the expected behaviour when you have the latest game version.

you're great, the situation you shared here gave me plenty of ideas.(I've never used a cheat engine before.) Now I have produced the exact solution for the current version of the game. I hope it works for everyone. I've completely updated the first message.See there for details.

I see that your new method tries to work and tries to trigger 3D Vision. But like before, all I get is a 2D image (the emitter turns on for a second and then turns off) with clearly the GPU usage of 3D. I also tried the CheatEngine method, which also tries to enable 3D, but with the same result for me.

Windows 10 1903, 425.31 drivers, RTX 2080Ti.

Thank you for developing these methods, nevertheless :).

Thank you for developing these methods, nevertheless :).
thank you for feedback.
Try pressing Ctrl + T keys several times in a row. (Turns GeForce 3D Vision off/on.) If you trigger it that way, maybe it can be active.
As you mentioned several times, my screen also appeared in 2D. but persistently, I managed to activate it by pressing Ctrl + T. With this method, if 3d is active but the image does not look right, here's what to do: To re-enable 3D, switch to Windows 10 TaskView with the Windows+Tab or Alt+Tab key. Click on the game window again, return to the game. True 3D will be activated automatically. (If Start3D.exe is running)
Finally, try to install these nVidia Inspector profile files.

Well, poop xD. Sorry for making you lose some time.... I reinstalled the 425.31 drivers again (last night Windows updated them without my permission) and now 3D works fine in DX12. Something got corrupted, maybe. I don't know. Thanks again for what you did!

I'm assuming that this should work with display driver 436.02 as there is no difference to SOTTR.exe profile as compared to 441.08.

I've followed your instructions in the video you posted to youtube, including moving start3d.exe to the where SOTTR.exe is and telling 3D Fix Manager to run that executable when starting the game and I've also copied your settings, to include -nolauncher, and everything past the 1:25 min mark. The game will start, and there is a message with a different font, but as soon as it attempts to get to the main menu screen the game CTD's. At first it did this without a windows error, but now I'm getting a "DXGI_Device_Hung" error as well.

I don't know, I'm just so tired of this bullshit, ready to throw in the towel with trying to get this game working with 3D Vision and DX12. Why Nixxes can't do this is beyond me. I must have spent at least 6 or 7 hours between downloading version 236.7 and now this new method and it never works.

I updated driver today (441.41) I got the same error. but I found the solution. you must install GeForce Experience. Login with username.
Start your game via 3dfix manager. The game will ask you question this time. Switch to tick NO. After a few seconds the game needs to come to screen in 3D.

In some cases, DX12-3D cannot be enabled if GeForce Experience is not installed. I have done many tests today with many drivers.

If not installed GeForce Experience, DX12 3D can not be activated. I have done many tests today with many drivers.
I was having a CTD without GForce Experience on 436.02 before even updating to 441.41. I attempted to update via 3D Fix Manager and made the mistake of selecting "3D Vision quick install" somewhere while updating the display driver instead of "run set-up wizard". This basically broke 3D Vision and there was no way to undo this without clean uninstalling the display driver to something else and then reinstalling the display driver so I opted for just reverting to 436.02 via System Restore (luckily my system created a restore point just the day before). I had already spent a good bit of time trying your method and didn't want to spend another hour+ installing a newer display driver with Losti's method to rule out the display driver.

I didn't even attempt to start the game with 441.41 because 3D Vision was refusing to work at that point.

Is it still possible to update the display driver with 3D Fix Manager or is the entire thing broken, not just the part where it asks you if you want to "a quick set-up" or "run 3D Vision set-up wizard"?

The problem was that 3D Vision refuses to activate, even in the Nvidia Test Image (the rotating Nvidia symbol). Restarting the PC doesn't resolve the problem and there's no option in 3D Fix Manager to fix this. There's nothing to do other than find some other display driver, clean install to that, then try to update back to 441.41 via 3D Fix Manager or Losti's method which is equally convoluted.

I'm highly skeptical the problem is 436.02. Why wouldn't it work with this display driver? It's new enough. Something else is causing the CTD and I can't figure it out.

If I can't update to 441.41 with 3D Fix Manager to rule out the display driver I'm probably done trying to get this to work until I have more than SOTTR as a reason to spend 2-3 hours using Losti's method to update the display driver.

3dfx manager driver update may not always produce successful results. there is nothing to be so confusing. Use LOsti's method. Why did you avoid LOsti's method I could not make sense. it takes no more than 30 min. I've done many times until now.

Download this app. and remove drive with this application.
https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/di ... nload.html

just download driver and then install it.
https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverR ... 5872/en-us

then download this driver
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverR ... 5056/en-us

Run Losti's program "3D_driver_Changer.cmd" . follow the steps. at one point you will be asked to copy lastest driver you just downloaded into losti's folder and follow the steps.
Good luck...

Per our Discord exchange, I'm on 441.41, 3D Vision works with other titles flawlessly. I Restarted the PC, the problem hasn't gone away, here's a video showing the issue hopefully to give you a better idea as to what the problem may be: https://youtu.be/LLRik21lySU

• Also, in other method I've shown here, you can activate Dx12->3D in the game, you must install Cheat Engine 7.0 on your computer.
• After you should load DX12-3D-pointer.CT file located in folder of this profile . After loading, Select check box if you want 3D to always be active.
• if 3d closes again. Switch to Windows 10 TaskView with the Windows+Tab or Alt+Tab key. Click on the game window again, return to the game. 3D will be activated automatically.
• You can follow all the steps described in this 3D video. https://youtu.be/SMAHaIrfGvw
• Game will display as 2D DX12. if the graphics look bad at this time, graphics will be fix when 3D is activated.
Although I tried hard, I could not update Start 3D.exe as I wanted. Some processors can not benefit from this exe . (Sorry! a condition related to cores.)
But i updated Cheat Engine file. With this file, i think everyone should have Dx12-3D enabled on their computer. (DX12-3D-pointer.CT ) You can follow all the steps described in this 3D video. https://youtu.be/SMAHaIrfGvw Select check box if you want 3D to always be active.

Cheat Engine 7.0 didn't work and neither did your new start3d.exe (and all of the other files). I give up, I suppose this is not possible if you have a CPU with more than 4 logical cores.

In this part of your video, I set the value to 2. I ask you to make the value 1. if the value changes to 1 then the game switches to SideBySide mode. This means that Cheat Engine is working correctly. if the change is happening it has nothing to do with the cpu cores. there is a problem with driver or other setting.

if cheat engine file I gave does not work. You can create your own computer-specific settings.
cheat engine tutorial
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No5plevD8A4
change stereoscopic option sidebyside in game. apply methods described in tutorial on cheat engine. You can find the value that is specific to your computer.

if you find the correct memory address you can replace it with these values
0 : 2D
1 : sidebyside
2 : 3d vision

Good luck

Ok thanks, I may give it another attempt, I set that value to 2 like you did in the video and it was doing exactly the same thing that it was doing previously where 3D Vision looked totally broken with broken shaders, some weird fog obscuring everything and there being two Laura's with her hair floating in between the two just like I showed in the video with the old fix without Cheat Engine. Like basically nothing changed. I can try setting that value to 1 but at this point I just don't know if it's possible with 8700k or other processors of greater core count (if that is indeed the problem).

Thanks for all of the work with this though!

Reporting about the newest drivers (441.66):
- Clean installed after DDU, standard drivers version.
- Tried with and without Geforce Experience.
- Using Schwing's drivers DLL files (nvwgf2um.dll and nvwgf2umx.dll) + 3D Fix Manager 3D Vision installation.
- The game in DX12 always crashes to desktop silently after a second or two of a black screen, if 3D Vision is enabled. Even windowed mode crashes.
- Using Start3D.exe or not doesn't change anything about the crash.

Perhaps you could set StereoDefaultOn from 1 to 0 in the registry to get past the initial crash.

Also, I imagine you are, but if not set your desktop to 120Hz before entering the game as well.

GL

PCGamingWiki doesn't have much on this game, but perhaps Use the -nolauncher command line argument for the Steam overlay may help?

i 'm play the game without any problem as 441.66 3D dx12 (windows 10 1809 ) Sometimes it crashes Tombraider when starting for the first time. but the method I describe here fix this . (must be stereoDefaultOn 1 )

If you don't start the game from my 3DFixmanager profile, you may have problems. If you start the game manually. Be sure to pay attention to these settings in the image..
Başlıksız-1.jpg
3D should be turned off in the game settings when starting the game. otherwise the game sometimes crashes in dx12 as you mentioned. The game will start in 3D if stereoDefaultOn 1 and Start3D.exe are launched.[/b]

If you try all these methods, but the Tombraider still crashes, I think it is due to the version 1903 of windows 10.

I saw your message on discord. You have returned to the nvidia 425.31 driver. if you later update Nvidia driver with Schwing's method again please share the result here.
By the way, dude thanks QANTUM BREAK update great. awesome experience. :woot after all this time, thank you very much for updating again. ;)

a little off topic, but I was disappointed to see the ray traced shadows do not work in 3D. I had not played any of the DLC, so was going to come back and check them out along with the added ray tracing support - but the additional shadows are not fixed for stereoscopic 3D by Nixxes. Is anyone using 3D and ray tracing at same time and its working for them? I had to turn them off for 3D.

This was literally the only game we had a chance to use RTX features and 3D together due to the unique combo of DX12 & native 3D support by Nixxes. Not a huge deal, but disappointing nonetheless...I can only hope one day we get a DX12 3DMigoto for the future of 3D gaming...

Sadly I think it was expected, it's been mentioned a few times that raytracing won't work in 3d.

I recently finished the game in dx11 and for the most part it was really good performance wise other than hitting 20-30 fps in the big cities from time to time. This game has the best graphics I've seen in 3d at this point, it's just ridiculous, really recommended.

3D dx12 has already been canceled before the game is released. they removed the feature from the game menu. we don't even know why. It would be a big surprise if "ray traced shadows" worked with 3d. :D

I play SOTTR in SBS 3D which is available on DX12, so it was the one game that could potentially have 3D & RTX features working together. Ray tracing was added later and I don’t think they bothered testing it with 3D on most likely.

As for Control, I played it with Losti ‘s excellent fix. Was amazing in 3D, after I finished I tested it out with full ray tracing (2D). In my opinion, its the best showcase for ray tracing so far. Very impressive. But of course, I chose 3D over ray tracing every time. My point was its a shame we have to choose one or the other, but on the bright side...at least I still have a 3D choice thanks to our amazing 3D wizards after Nvidia dropped us! The future is coming though, and its heavy with DX12 and ray tracing tech..

I really want to play Control, I'm really a huge fan of Remedy and Quantum Break in 3d is a masterpiece, but after SOTR and Star Wars Jedi Order I wanted to play something that wasn't a third person game, and currently enjoying Dishonored 2 a lot, however masterotaku fix gives me crashes, broken interface and stutters, DHR original fix works great though for anyone interested.
