Hello all! What drivers do I want to get for my setup?

Post by DrFysh »

Hey everyone, I'm new here so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I just recently got a pair of the X Force 3D (aka Another Eye 2000) shutter glasses and also purchased a GeForce 7600 GS to take full advantage of 3D. I have an Athlon 64 3400+ system running Windows XP.
I was wondering what nVidia drivers I need to get and where can I get them? I know I need the ForceWare driver and the Stereo 3D driver, but do the version numbers need to match? And which are the latest ones I can run on XP for this setup?
Any help would be appreciated.
And I look forward to posting and talking to you guys more as my 3D adventure unfolds!

Thanks,
DrFysh

You could get some stereo drivers here:
http://download.guru3d.com/download.php?id=22

I think you can get some other (special/exclusive) S-3D drivers on this page in the download section.

I'd suggest 91.31 combo or 94.24 combo or something similar.
I have no good experience with drivers higher than 100. Many older games get graphic bugs with new drivers.

The numbers don't have to match necessaryly, but if the numbers are available, it does not hurt ;-)

Question: what monitor do you have? LCD/TFT or a CRT monitor? CRT shouldn't be a problem, but LCD/TFT might be to 'slow' --> flickering + ghosting and... problems

edit:
you can get a detailed description how to install the drivers on Freke1's website:
http://www.3d.wep.dk/driverguide.html

Good luck and have fun with 3D ;-)

OK, well I got my video card, installed it and started with the 91.31 driver set. I got the stereo 3D working with them but decided to try to upgrade to the 160-170 series drivers so they were newer. As most pple on here said, the newer drivers seemed to do nothing but lock up and give me the blue screen. I did all the registry edits and everything for the newer drivers as well, still no go. So after a LOT of work and rebooting I managed to get the 91.31 drivers back on. Oops, no nVidia settings menu! So I went back and changed the registry settings I made back to what they were (I think, I changed them all back to 0 which is how i think they were originally) and I removed the "SonomaSet(?)" key (it was Sonoma something) because it originally wasnt there. OK, nVidia menu is back, I turn on 3D and it works pretty good!
BUT
NOW I CAN'T WATCH VIDEO! My Windows Media Player and my Winamp wont display video! I can watch YouTube and vids on the web, but my standalone vid players wont display video anymore! Now I remember watching vids after I put the new card in and used the 91.31 drivers, but after my messing around, no video.
Has anyone else had this problem? Was is me changing the registry settings? HHEEELPP!

Well it's not good to change all registry things. The right ones should have been somewhere here (in the forum).

Maybe it helps to install some fresh Codecs (e.g. K-lite codec pack) and/or the player...

In general it should work! And even S-3D movies should work with stereoscopic player (with the right codecs).

Good luck
and Congrats to getting S-3D to run :)

Did you use DriverSweeper or clean out the registry like explained in the link LukePC1 gave? You may have to just uninstall all Nvidia drivers and try again.

You could also try just reinstalling WMP as it should come with the common codecs ( http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... fault.mspx ).

If you are missing a specific codec look for it on this page: http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemList.aspx?typeid=8
